Hey everyone.

I bought a Mosin off a fellow CGN member, and I want to mount a scope to it. It came with a few pieces to do just that, but some digging on the net has shown me that if you take off the rear sight, theres a dove tail below it!

So I was wondering what sort of scope people are using with a long eye relief?

it's not actually a dovetail, as it is somewhat tapered....you're best to mount either traditional over the receiver or scout mount in place of the rear sight. the "dovetail" of which you speak will not hold rings very well under recoil.

and just for reference, a properly mounted scout scope for the M44 Mosin.....those "dovetails" are not actually that....they won't hold the rings .....ask me how i know.....

as for scopes, there are a few to choose from. from cheap such as the Aim in the picture to higher end stuff like leupold....the Aim is being replaced shortly with a LER Bushnell that's on it's way. Aim was only mounted to ensure i could work with a scout setup.

I have one of those "scout mounts" that replaces the rear sight, but its crooked when installed. Was yours doing that when you first put it on?

nope...S&K mount for $60 bucks or so from the US...was recommended by another nutter who had tried them.. the cheap ebay ones don't mount the same and that could be what you're referring to.

el cheapo AIM sports 2-7x32....think it was around $40 from ebay....it's long eye relief and functions "ok"....again this was my first scout setup and wanted to ensure these old eyes could work with that before i dropped some real money on a quality scope.

and Strato50 is the nutter who suggested to me the S&K mount.....thanks again for that heads up, install with some blue loctite and it holds round after round. another great reason i enjoy this website, having others share their experiences to help eliminate guess work.

lol.........that's right I remember that and you are more than welcome....I did the same used blue loctite and it is a very tight system. I have learned so much by coming here.
