scope for my .17 hmr

I bought a scope for my 17 last summer when I was putting the package together. I got a Tasco 6x24 with paralax adj on the front bell. The adj was a PITA, as you have to do it at different ranges, and now the mpi moves as I change the paralax.
What"s the most magnification anyone here has on a 17 hmr? I need a new scope for gopher season, and maybe some bunnies sooner.
I want magnification in double figures and a nice fine reticle. What do you reccomend? I don't want to sell a kidney here either, I want to upgrade the glass on some of my real rifles this year too.

How'd you end up in Lethbridge of all the windy damn places in the world?? I get to say that cause I'm from the area....

As far as a scope, I have a 3-10 x 40mm B&L Elite 4200, with their duplex reticle....and it works just fine for me for as far as I shoot that thing....I suppose you could go higher power, but on anything under 200 yrds for gophers its fine......the sad part is now that I've moved up north, I haven't had a chance to even try the 17 on anything but paper gophers..... gonna go on safari down south this year.
