Hi friends! I have recently acquired a rem 700 sps varmint. I have a vortex 6.5x20x44 I am wanting to purchase an mdt 20moa rail aswell as the MDT Arings. But with the 6-10 week lead time ordering from them I’d rather not order the wrong rings. My question is.. what height do I get? I’d like as low as possible. Thanks in advance.

I have the same scope on a Rem 700 LTR, the rings I have on it are Tactical Precision Systems (TPS) TSR Low 0.925" with lots of room for clearance. I think you might get away with MDT low 0.82" rings, wont need higher than medium. I attached a Pic of my boy using my LTR. Hope that helps.

Also RDSC looks like they have MDT rings in stock if you want to get them sooner.

Lots of resellers still have stock also a few in the EE

OP - you are going to discover that various makers have different ideas what is Low versus High rings - not even close to same hieght, one brand to another. You will want an actual dimension - often from top of flat of base to bottom of the scope body, although some makers give you a dimension to centre of scope body. Most definitely helps to have a buddy who has identical scope installed on identical rifle and get that brand and size of rings - there are substitutions that work well, but beware that not all brands are the same dimension - "Low", "Medium", High, or "Extra High". On some old school rifles, concern yourself about bolt handle clearance - there was at least one BRNO .22 here that had nice clearance to barrel, but the bolt handle would hit the eye-piece, with Warne brand " Medium" rings.

why do you want it as low as possible?

I assumed that video was going to detail how to mount a scope...in a way that would not take into account the angled MOA mount, or the differences introduced by various lengths of scope. I was pleasantly surprised to see that all of that is accounted for; good video. (y)

I enjoyed the term "communist measurement". :)

Just don't forget that it you overdo the low mounting idea, you may find you have problems installing a lens cap on the objective. I like a low mount as well, but I want a couple mm of clearance. :)

I started doing PRS a few years ago and have found higher scope mounting to help both my neck and vision when in various positions.

So no more slamming the scope down as low as it’ll go. The scopes are all being mounted higher.

Good video but it assumes that you already have the rail you intend to use installed on the rifle.
If I read the OP right that means double freight and time lost.
Unfortunately I don’t have an answer to that problem.
The video also seemed to miss (or did I) clearance for cycling the bolt; not all bolt knobs extend the same distance or are the same size, not all ocular or objective bells are the same size, not all picatinny rails are the same length and not all eye relief is the same so having a tight objective to barrel gap isn’t the only driving factor in mount height.
But stacking washers does give you a starting point.

Seems like you and about 1 other person understood my query. This thread reminded me of why I don’t come here for information anymore.

I agree. The older CZ rimfire rifles (like the 452 & 455) also had higher bolt throws that would make some scopes a pain.

Also, CZ 527's had the same issue, especially the earliest models. The one I have rubs on an average scope eyepiece (about 43-44mm) if you use almost any medium rings. The stock CZ and Burris CZ style rings are the tallest mediums out there, and both do work (but barely).

Later editions remodeled the handle so it cleared scopes easier, and a couple aftermarket options exist, although I do not have one
