It's great having a resource like this to turn to. Admittedly I don't know anything about magnified optics. All I have now is a number of red dot sights for my various black rifles and even those I'm just learning how to zero/adjust.

I recognize that I need to get something with magnification, possibly just 1-4X as I can't see anything I'm shooting at out beyond 50 yards, especially at ~100 yards.

I'm hoping to get started by mounting something on my Savage Arms Accutrigger MKII FSS (stainless with fiber optic sights)

Specifics are:
MKII FSS .22 LR 20-3/4" Stainless Steel 39-1/2" 5.5 20025206 Black Synthetic

While there are pre-drilled holes on the top I assume I need to buy some kind of a mount as well. I'm happy to buy from any of the sponsors here if you have links or suggestions.

I did some searching and found one site in the states for a mount but there was still a number of options and I was lost.

Appreciate any suggestions

First suggestion is to post in the rimfire forum... This is the centerfire forum.

For a recommendation we would need to know how serious you are about shooting good groups at 100 yards? If you will shoot a lot at thayt distance, I would look at a scope with at least 14X at the top end... 16x-24X would be even better... A good reasonably price scope that I recommend is the Hawke Varmint SF in 4-16X44 or 6-24X44... If you are primarily hunting or plinking then you don't need that much magnification a standard 3-9X40 or 2-7X32 will be fine... Hawke also makes the Varmint SF in a 2.5-10X44 and a 3-12X44... The Redfield Revolution line is nice as is the Nikon ProStaff line and the Leupold Rifleman line...

Weaver makes two piece bases, but if you can, find an EGW rail or better yet a DIP rail... I will post some pics to show you options when I get to my computer...

In the meantime maybe a moderator will move this thread to the rimfire forum for you...

Will keep that in mind. Thank you for the detailed reply despite my posting here - I hadn't noticed that a rimfire forum existed

I should probably focus on getting good groups shots at 50 yards before I look much beyond that. I really appreciate the recommendations and am happy to see there are decent options for ~$200.

It sounds like finding the correct base piece(s) is key to proper mounting. I appreciate any pics or leads for getting mounts/rings. EGW/DIP - these are brands? Excuse my ignorance, most of my other rifles have picatinny rails so that takes some of the guess work out of it.

My bench rimfires wear more magnification than my centerfires... Even for groups at 50 yards I would want 14X+... The Mueller APV is a good inexpensive optic also (~$135) 4.5-14X40mm... Can be had on Amazon.ca. I have the Mueller Eraticator on a couple guns, and like it for bench to 200m... I have 8 or 10 of the Hawke Varmint SF's, mostly 4-16X & 6-24X. If you will NOT be hunting with your gun, then I would gravitate to the higher magnifications... Weaver also makes some nice optics with fine crosshair reticles, take a look at the V24... Skip the Kaspa line, but the 40/44 line has some good choices and I think Cabelas.ca has them on sale.

Yes EGW and DIP (Diversifies Innovative Products) are companies... DIP also makes an 1/8" rigid magazine plate and steel TG's. If you decide to upgrade your stock, these are good accessories (Boyd's stocks require longer action screws).

EGW ring and base
Sightron S2 4-16-42
And Rifle Basix Trigger down to 15 oz.
Harris SBRM with POD LOC

This is my setup and the groups are amazing.
