I am getting my XCR this week, was just looking for some advice for a scope. This is my first black rifle so i dont know too much about the optics. What are some that you guys use and like. I would like one for possibly shooting out to 300+ yards if needed. I am thinking i would like illuminated, not over 500$ I have a vortex for my other rifle and love it. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks
Here is a picture of it

I asked a buddy of mine the same question for the same gun and this was his reply:

"http://www.opticsplanet.com/red-dot-scopes.html :bigHug: this sight has a lot of sights....i have not ordered from there, but they have almost everything out there so you can find what you want...

trijicon, eotech, and aim point are the high end sights. :bigHug:burris, bushnell and leupold are mid range. :bigHug:the rest is junk for the most part.

I would buy the one below again. :bigHug:You may want a 2 MOA dot, not 4 or 6.....if you get one with a 4 MOA dot the dot is big at longer ranges and covers more of the target. :bigHug:but that being said, there are better ones out there, just depends on what you want to spend....read the reviews.

http://www.opticsplanet.com/vortex-sparc-red-dot-sight-sprc.html :bigHug:- i had this one and it worked great, especially for what you want it for, and the price is right.

big money.....plus mount for 3x.....

all depends how much money you want to spend my friend."

Don't forget your export permit when you order from opticsplanet. He needs a Canadian source. A red dot is not a very good choice if 300 yds plus is on your plate. Depending on the type of accuracy your trying to achieve a low power scope would be a far better choice. A 1-4 will serve you well for service rifle type shooting, and anything more than 10 power is a bit useless on a 2-3 moa rifle. My choice would be a Burris FF TAC 30 with their ballistic 5.56 reticle. It has holdovers out to 590 yds in 100 yd increments using progressively smaller dots. P&D lists them at $350.

Aimpoint PRO is what I have on my XCR, it is a decent optic with no magnification. If you want magnification, they sell a separate magnifier.

Optics planet is a great site, unfortunately they won't ship any firearms products, including scopes or lights to Canada. You can certainly do your research there though.

EOtech are the other brand I would recommend.

The aimpoint PRO I got at Target Sports for $440 I believe. Battery life is 3 years left on in your safe on setting 6, so you can't beat the battery life.

I don't believe you can use the XCR for service rifle as it is not an issued rifle to any NATO military. I looked into it when I got mine.

The XCR is decent for 3 gun though, and that has shots up to about 100-150 metres normally, with close quarters as well. An unmagnified or variable magnification red dot is usually preferred I believe.

NSCC rules are "any rifle in any calibre" that meets range restrictions. In service rules are only for Military or RCMP competitors.

Ahhh, thank you for clarifying. I believe the local range where I was looking at the rules is a military range, perhaps they posted their rules for military personnel instead of general public. Thanks.

That's why I said service rifle style, I didn't necessarily mean service rifle matches. Being NR means playing in the bush too.

Yes, and with a calibre change to 6.8 or 7.62, the XCR can be a usable deer rifle out to 150 yards or so....although I wouldn't want to hump it through the bush all day. A tree stand in a wooded area would likely be ideal.

Anyone have any other specific scopes? Not just a brand? looking into my options. Thanks

I've got a Falcon Menace 1.5-5x32 on my XCR. It's a bit short on eye relief but I've used it for 3 gun at distances from 2 to 250m and for shooting steel silhouettes out to 500m.

Got a double set up for my M one Hilux CMR 1X4 and one Bushnell 10X40 Elite Mildot ( surprising scope for the mo )... JP.

I run a 1.25-8 Bushnell 6500 on mine and use it for 3 gun as well as hunting. This combo works great on this gun, I've used the 8 power numerous times to make hits further out and yes I realise it's more than the op wants to pay, but to say a slightly higher magnification on an XCR isn't the way to go is selling your options with the gun short. Also I've humped mine through the bush numerous times without issue.

Depends on what your looking for. Check the optics specialists in the dealer's network as well as site sponsors. There's lots out there but its spread out with a little here and a little there. Also the type of shooting and more importantly the size of your target are important factors when choosing a scope. Making hits on a man size target and printing tight groups on bench rest targets are 2 different ball games best suited to 2 different types of scope

I will likely be shooting targets smaller then a man or animal, 12x12 paper or metal. I am still stuck on what type to get. I am thinking something around 6-9x max will be good all around. Dont want to get one with like 3x and not be able to get out where i want. Anyone else have any experience with scopes they love on there black rifles?

I put a crossfire, a millet 1-4 and finally put a nikon 2-7x32 on my xcr. I haven't found one I like better then that yet(hunting and steel plates out to 400):update: I just installed a vortex diamondback 1.75-5x32 on it last night and sighted in in at the range this afternoon. BDC retical and bigger FOV is working better.
