I am wondering what kind of scopes are performing well with 450 marlin or 45-70.

I have a Winchester 94 trails end take-down in .450 marlin cal. I put a Leopold VX-2 3-9x33 scope on it with Leopold rings. Last year it was sighted in nicely. decent group at 100m. I went to the range earlier this year and the gun was shooting a few inches to the right but still a good group (picture 1). I adjusted the scope to the left and then it was all over the place. I concluded the scope will no longer hold zero and sent it back for warranty. I received a new scope installed it and went to the range. Took about 4 shots to get it on paper at 50m then 1 at 100m. quick adjustment up and did 5 shots it was grouping fairly good (picture 2). Put the gun on the rack to cool and played with my 30-06. Went back to the 450 marlin and the gun was all over the place (picture 3). Scope is tight. Did I blow another scope ?

Opinions please is my choice of scope all wrong. What do you recommend. The rep at Leopold says the scope should work fine on this cal.

Kinda hard to say without handling the gun, but if you have a boresighter you can check for traking and maybe a loose reticle. You could also do that with a line drawn on a piece of paper far enough.

It could definitely be the scope, they are hard hitting guns and are notorious for being tough on scopes.

I would give the gun a good cleaning and retest, maybe it does not like being dirty.
