I have a question for everyoone...

I have a very good friend that has extencive knowlege in guns and he is starting to get into scopes.

About 4 months ago I decided I wanted to swich scopes and he was the go to guy for me because he had alot of them and he was always asking a good price. So he told me that the scope that I was getting was a older Euro Diamond but when it was made 10 years ago they did not have markings.

Because he was a friend i didn't think twice about it. But went the Glass was not right... chitty glass... i started to dig deeper.

By the time I figured out that the scope that I traded for was a POS and worth less then 1/2 what my old scope was worth and the glass on this was brutal comparitive to what I had... he sold it to a life long friend for cheep.

My delema is that I am going back to school, I can't afford to get the same quality of optics and he is telling me to sell the scope for more then it is worth so I can get the VXIII i want.

He gave me a knife in the trade too after I confronted him about it and he said he would make it right.

So hunting season is coming up, I do not have relyable optics and he keeps on telling me that "don't worry it will sell"

I am in the same office as this guy and he has always helped me out with Loading, we go up to the range all the time, he will clean my guns when I don't have time, and load ammo...

The issue is that he did not know that the scope was the chitty quality it actually is. A member on the EE did the same thing to him and he unknowing the false facts, regurgitated the info to me.

What should I do?

PS - I am 23, he is 59 and been collecting guns for 40+ years.

So you are knowingly selling a piece of s**t scope to a member on the EE? Just because someone did it to you doesn't mean it should continue. Tell your friend to pay you back the $$ or f**k off. As well, give us his name, so I can add him to my ignore list...

It is not a POS.. it is just a POS comparitive to what I had... and No I am not selling to another member for an inflated price, and it is not even on the EE I am trying to figure out what I am going to ... Because I would never treat someone like that... I know what that feels like, and it is a tough feeling.

The trade was between my Sheperd 310-p1 4x-10x 44mm and his Burris Compact 4x-12x 32mm with A/O and All i want is the trade to be evend out.

Sounds like a good friend...

Dutchie,

It stings man, but you should sell the scope for what its really worth .... buy a decent one ( not from your friend ) and carry on with your friendship .... A good friend is worth more than a crappy scope. :(

In future, do your homework on your purchases, and never assume because he's 59 and your 23 that the light of all wisdom shines out his butt. :D Some might tell you to dump your friend over this, but you have to overlook some flaws if you've got buddies.

What were the descriptions of the scopes involved, make, power, age?

I disagree, any so called "friend" that would do that to me would not carry that status for long. A real friend, upon hearing that he screwed you would immediatly make it right, no matter the cost to him. The problem with used optics is that sometimes you get a bad scope but you can not tell until it is mounted and fired from your gun, sometimes days, weeks, or even months after the purchase. Always ask for an inspection period when buying used equipment, and get it to the range and test it before the time is up.

Sorry to hear that you got mis lead. Good luck in getting straightened out!
