"... no legal repercussions". I am aware of one company that got "burned" by that move. So, Tanross Supply Company from Florida, USA became "TASCO". Never owned a factory - never manufactured a thing. Would take orders from wholesalers or buyers, then source out jobbers and assemblers, then supply whatever quality product that the buyer wanted to pay for. Could, and did, make really cheap crap or very good stuff. They won a supply contract with US Navy for rifle scopes. Beat out other suppliers like Leupold and Redfield. Set up the system and really good scopes started to arrive. Then tried to substitute suppliers, materials or assemblers - I did not get that part straight about which they actually tried to change. Turns out US Navy, besides Seal Teams, etc. , also have very good legal teams. Sued Tanross Supply Company into bankruptcy. They were done. The bankruptcy trustee sold the TASCO brand name to the same group that owns Bushnell and a few other companies. But, apparently Tanross Supply Company is pretty much history... There may be scopes sold in 2021 that have a TASCO brand name - but nothing whatsoever to do with the TASCO scopes from 1960's and 1970's.
