Scope Mount And Rings For M305?

From what I understand, when you remove the scope off of a smith mount, the military sights are not useable. On the ARMS 18 you can use the sights. I imagine you will also need a higher cheekpad for the Smith mount.

I have mounted 5 of the Arms 18 mounts for myself, my brother and a couple of friends. None have had cases hanging up in the reciever. All have marks on the bases from brass hitting then on occasion, once they have been shot a few hundred rounds.

The person I spoke to at The Shooting Edge told me they have had no complaints about jamming with the ARMS 18, and they sell quite a few when they can get them.

Has anyone actually witnessed this jamming with the arms mount?

I also use a full rail ARMS 18 and have had no problem with hang ups or jammed casings. It has caused absolutely no problems whatsoever.

This doesn't make sense??

The arms #18 is low, so you can use the GI sights....the sight line is over the mount.

The Smith #2006 and #2024 are a little higher, the GI sights can be used they are viewed through a deep channel in the scope mount.

The Smith #2005 Acog mount is the only Smith mount that does not allow the usage iron sights.

Your cheek piece will need to be 1/4 inch higher than with the Arms.

I have experienced this with a few of my new style #18's, this is why I switched to the Smith style. I tried a few of the newer mounts on .....if I recall 5 different M14 types.....I did experience it on a few different rifles.
That is not an issue I ever want to deal with.
So.....this jamming issue is not made up.

OK, One person has expierienced this first hand. Anyone else?

I have fielded queustions on how to solve the "jamming" problem with the ARMS #18 mount.

There is more then one person who has had this happen.Ask this question on any of the U.S. M14 sites and it will be roughly 50/50 for those having problems with the ARMS #18.

I have helped out several local CGN'rs with the problem. One of my good Buds had this problem with a stock Springfield M1A. I witnessed it first hand.Switching to a KAC M14 RAS solved the proble.;):p

I think it is the inconsistent ejector spring tension with the Norcs that causes the problem most of the time.

I have the same issue with a Factory Norc bolt.Once I swapped in a USGI bolt & parts kit, the issue went away.

But I still prefer the Smith style mount for the longer rail surface.
