Scope mount Bases for Stevens 300.

Hi.
I just got a little Stevens 300 LR and I see conflicting opinions on which Weaver bases will fit the gun. I was thinking the #16 were the way to go and then I read somewhere that they didn't fit..
Any input at all would be appreciated. Im going to be using a 6-18 x 44 Redfield on it just for a while.

I have a Stevens coming in the mail, when it arrives i'll try out the bases I had on my Savage 93G, they are Weaver #43. But everything ive read says #16 will fit too.

I had #16 on my 300F. they worked just fine.
