Any suggestions for a combo that clears the bolt, sits relatively low and doesn't require removing the rear sight? QD would be a bonus.

I have a set of low Talley steel (vertical split) rings on my 452 Lux. I'm using a Leupold 4x28 rimfire scope. The objective and eyepiece are the same diameter (1.4 inches according to Leupold). The bolt handle will just clear the eyepiece and the objective sits just far enough behind the rear sight so I can remove the lens covers without any trouble. This is the lowest you will be able to mount this particular scope before it bottoms out on the bolt handle. Only way to go lower is if you find a lower mount and a scope with a smaller eyepiece diameter. If you want more power you might try the 2-7x28 Leupy instead of the 4x28 but the 2-7 is a wee bit longer. One negative is since the Talley's are vertical split you cannot remove / remount the scope quickly. I don't know if there are any other rings with the same height as the Talley's though :(

I have a leupold 2-7x28 on low 11mm leupold bases on my 453 lux.

Front of the scope sits just behind the rear sight. On 2x I can see the front sight hood.......

Generally I like scopes from 33 to 40 mm obj. But this 'little fella' seems to fit the rifle well!

Cheers!

Watch the size of the rear ocular, The Leupold Medium rings are very limiting, The bolt needs a lot of clearance, High mounts will be needed for high magnification scopes, Also watch out for the front ocular hitiing the sights. This is a tricky gun to scope properly. You really have to select the rings and scope with the gun present.

You might want to check over at RFC as the have a big list of scopes and rings listed as to what will fit. I have been using the Burris Signature Zee High with JP adapter and a Bushnell Legend 5-15x40. on my American.

My 452 Varmint has the same set up with a 8-32x44TD Mueller.

As Sweetheart says they are fussy little buggers!

I just mounted a tasco 6-24 42 on my cz 455 after trying several types
Of mounts at wholesale sports I was able to get some
Leupold rimfire 11mm high to work without removing the sights.
I have nice clearance with my bolt and sits maybe a mm above the sight. Looks
Very good and sits as low as possible
