Scope mount for Enfield???

i need to get a scope mount for my enfield because ive decided to use my 303 for moose and bear and then buy a 223 or 22-250 for smaller critters. plan on using my shotgun scope on it. 1.5-4x32mm i believe.

what scope mount would you guys recomend? i do NOT want to perminatly modify my gun in any way. thanks for any suggestions.

im not sure which enfield i have so heres a pic.

You have a #1mk3 and from what I can see of the cocking knob on the bolt it is one of the later ones. For a scope mount it will probably need to be drilled and tapped by a Gunsmith. To find out what is available get a catalog from ###.russellsports.com or ###.wholesalesports.com both these site list a WEAVER TIP OFF BASES FOR UNDER $20 ,but they take a special scope ring. Check the sites at the top of this page because these mounts are usually stocked by everybody. If you really, really don't want to have two or three small holes drilled in you VERY NICELY done RIFLE ( it is not a collector piece any more) ,there is a scope base that costs $95 us at ###.scopemounts.com called the S&K INSTA-MOUNT. It is in the U.S. so you may have trouble getting it, maybe not. In the url's substitute w for x.
 
I have one that needs NO gunsmithing, but it is for a No.4 with the rear site over the bolt.

It mounts in place of the rear site, and has set screws at the front end.

Got it from SurplusFirearms in St. Petes FL in happier times.

lol ive had this gun for 3 years and i have never noticed where its stamped No.1 Mark III :rolleyes: :redface: its a 1944 just so ya know.

now i am on my quest to find a scope mount for this bad boy that doesnt require gunsmithing because this was my great grandfathers, then grandmothers (for moose and bear) and now its mine.

Hi, I just purchased a no drill-no tap insta mount from the people listed below for my M1 Garand. The service was excellent. They shipped it up U.S. Global Priority and I recieved it in 7 working days from when I phoned in my order. They never ripped me off for high postage either.I highly recomend them....Ken

I very much like the S&K mounts for the #4 & #5 Lee Enfields, but the #1 mount relies on a ring that goes around the front of your receiver. Some stock relief is required, but it's still "rinky-dink".

3 good aftermarket ones that I know of, but yet to trial & error them.

I'm personally aiming for the ATI.

B-Square model, requires some filing but will fit.

Thanks for the side-by-side comparison. First time I've seen them all in one place.
 
For a LE, any short & compact seems to work fine...I'm guessing a longer eye relief is recommended since I've seen so many people being scoped with their Bubba .303 back home.
 
After being in a one-punch fight with a short eye relief scope , I have abit of a phobia over such things .

They're all decent mounts for no-D/T's
I'm more confident with the B-Square , however.
It doesn't need to be filed , but the back end needs to be squeezed closer to the reciever and the retaining pin ( goes thru the rearsight pin holes ) should be replaced by a bolt/nut.
Rearsights can be still used except for the micrometer Mk1 and Mk5 sights which won't allow the bolt to be removed.

Heres a rear view showing the bolt ( I used a brass bolt/nut ) and with a 300/600 Mk2 rearsight.
