I would appreciate input about "gunsmithingless" scope mounts for my 303; type, availability and performance etc.

Most of 'em require removing the rear sight and/ordrilling and tapping the charger guide. Hoewever, Advanced Technologies makes one. $69 at Marstar, but they're sold out.

Check for the ones from S&K; they make use of a wedge that is pulled by a 1/4''-20 Allen bolt to secure the mount to the charging bridge and 2 smaller allen bolts to the rear.
It is very stiff.

The B-Square mount for the No4MkI rifle replaces the rear sight and is secured at the front by replacing the ejector screw. Fitting that screw is about the only "smithing" you have to do. The rear pin is secured by the installation of two, very tiny, E-clips. They are easy to install and easy to lose when unpacking the mount. This mount comes complete with 1" rings. The problem with B-Square is that you're pretty much limited to whatever stock is in country since they no longer ship to Canada.

The Cad-Technik is nice because you can keep your rear sight in place and because it is a quick-detach two piece that should return to zero, so if your scope goes bad on a hunt you are still in the game and it allows removal of the bolt.

Its downside is that it does mount the scope higher than the others so you'll want to look at a replica No4.T cheekpiece (screws in your stock) or a Beartooth comb-raising kit (no screws in your stock, try Russells Sports in Calgary) and it costs more than the others and as far as I know there isn't a retailer in Canada (so try Brownells). And some people say it doesn't hold zero or doesn't return to zero but I've got two that I've used on a couple of No.4s and a No.5 and they work for me.
