Hi all,
I have a UTG tri-rail handguard, and bought the 6" rail extension to mount my scope on, as you can see in the photo below:
After I first posted this photo I was asked how well this holds a zero... turns out not well, unfortunately. I've taken it out to the range a couple of times, and the scope doesn't hold a zero (~80 rounds through it now). The last time I went, for instance, I took my first shot at the 100 yard target, and was 3" to the right. I adjusted the scope 3 MOA to the left, and took another shot, and was right on the bullseye. Shot 3 was similarly good, and then shot 4 was up and the the left significantly. This same kind of thing is what I saw over the course of 40 rounds. I figure the most likely culprit is the extension rail shifting. I think the significant sight deviations may only have occurred when ejected brass actually impacted the scope mounting rail, which was one in every 4 or 5 shots, from what I could tell.
So now I'm looking at getting a proper railed scope mount with three points of contact, but I'm wondering if any of them are going to have problems mounting with the UTG Tri-Rail handguard in place. Mostly I'm not sure if any of the good mounts can be mounted with the tri-rail already using the hole on the left side of the receiver (you can see on the photo how the rail system uses it as a rear mounting point).
I guess I could always take the UTG rail off, but I'd like to keep it just for looks, even if I'm no longer going to actually mount anything on it.
Thanks for any suggestions
