scope mounting on a vangaurd, what a shame

i tried mounting a leupold 1 piece standard base on 300 win mag vanguard s2, the holes line up perfect, but when I snugg up the 2 front screw the rear of the base is atleast a 1/16 away from the action, both are new nib, I would shim a old 303, not a new vanguard
 
If you can get your hands on a Weaver you will be okay.

Well I got nothing. The one piece for a 700 long action that I have on my 30-06 Vanguard fit fine, I didn't realize there was any difference in height until I tried putting a 700 short action one piece on my .243 Vanguard that I started looking into it. I ended up with a pair of Talley lightweights for a 700 because that was what I could find local. The .008" difference that I mentioned earlier was from the Talley website, so I shimmed mine instead of ordering the right one for way more money.
