What is the standard or most common width of grooves on .22 receivers for tip-off mounts?

My Marlin 795 measures five-eigths of an inch. I just bought a Bushnell .22 rimfire scope for it (at Wholesale Sports) partly because it came with tip-off rings, but I didn't look too closely at them until I got home. Upon finding that they don't fit, I measured - one inch.

i believe its 3/8" for rimfire dovetails. its strange that yours dont fit. i bought a bushnell scope that came with rings(the sportsman scope) and they fit my marlin 981T rimfire. granted i had to switch rings because my bolt wasn't clearing. i could probably give you my old bushnell rings if you want.

Typically North American made 22's have 3/8" dovetail grooves. I've never had the need to measure where they actually measure from, so I can't answer that important part of the equation. I'll grab one and measure it and let you know. Should be easy to find a good ring for a Marlin, its not as complicated as a CZ.

Took some measurements from 2 different 22's that have 3/8" (.375) dovetails, and clearly the 3/8" measurement is at the base of the dovetail, not across the top. At the top, they measure approximately .465 across. Hope that helps. I'm not sure what kind of tip off ring would measure 1" across as you have measured.

I think somebody may have switched the rings on this scope in the store. It is marked as a rimfire 4x32, but it was the last one in the display case and the seal was broken. I bought a Remington 870 Express combo there a couple of years ago and commented on the desireablility of a longer barrel, and the salesman without further ado swapped the 26" shot barrel with the 28" one from a regular 870 Express.

I'm really just irked because I won't have time to drive across the city and exchange it until next weekend, but the evenings are now warm and light enough to go to the range after work. :(

The rings had been switched. They gave me a whole new scope today, correct rings already on the scope...

...but the new scope is defective. It doesn't adjust. Back again tomorrow. Third time lucky, I hope.
