So once my Rpal arrives I am going to go get a Savaage Mark II F from the local sporting goods store here. I have a Friend that gave me a 4x marksman scope with mounting rings for free (I like free)

I just want to make sure I got my head around this scope mounting.

The Savage says drilled and tapped for scope mounts so I assume that means all I have to do is buy the scope mount rails right?

Weaver's website says 16 front 16 back, So do i simple just buy the rails screw them on and then attach the rings and off to the races?

Just want to make sure I got all the infomration before I go buy the equipment.

I recently bought myself a savage mark II F as well, so far i've put 15 rounds through it, every shot was on paper from about 40 yards standing unsupported. nothing to write home about but i'm ok wtih this until it warms up and i can bench rest and really sight it in.

anyway. i got a pair of base mount #16 and they went on without a hitch. easy as pie. but, i did go for the "high" weaver rings, im glad i did even though the website says medium would have worked for the objective size, the rifle sights on the gun were close. with medium rings, i think it would have interfered...

enjoy your gun!

It's not a bad idea to loctite (blue) the screws in the bases, and some like to do the same to the screws holding the ring halves together. Another thing I do is smear a very thin layer of rubber cement on the insides of the ring halves and let it dry a bit before dropping the scope in. It sort of helps hold the scope in place while you make your eye relief adjustments and get your crosshairs verical and horizontal. The other thing it does is help to prevent ring marks on the scope.

That's it for leveling the cross hairs, just guess? I think you should spend a little more time to make sure that the horizontal cross hair is actually level. I make sure that the rifle is level, using an actual level then I make sure that the scope is plumb with the rifle.

Just bought the same rifle a few days ago and found to hard to find the Weaver #16 and went with the #21's but had to fork out an additional $40 for new rings for my Bushnell. Spent a few hours at the range and all in all I am satisified with the accuracy of the gun/scope combo.

Go here <http://www.6mmbr.com/targets.html> and print out some targets, really helps to hone in your shot.

Have a blast!!

I actually couldnt find the #16 here in Calgary at all, Wholesale sports was sold out of everything, Bass pro shop the guy looked at me like i had a horn on my head when i ask if they had any.

had to buy them from cabaleas 4.99 each and 9 bucks to ship. which makes no sense because they could put them in an evelope with a 52 cent stamp for the size of them. Should be here on friday.
