Ok i heard scopeing a Yugo SKS is hit and miss.
I have looked at the Marstar mounts and was thinking a side mount that was drilled and Tapped into the side of the Receiver would be much better tho more work.
Anyone have any ideas on what really works and keeps the scopes on target.

Them receiver cover ones marstar have look like they would move around a bit?
I would rather not drill and Tapp but want a good mount!

I am thinking of getting a scout mount for mine.A buddy has one on his sks-d and seems to hold zero realy well.

Do NOT buy any receiver cover mount SKS scope mount. The recoil will blow your zero in about 3 rounds. Your best bet is drill and tapped on the reciever, or no scope at all, its accurate enough with its iron sites out to 100, and any longer out its a crap shoot.

On a related note, I have a reciever cover SKS mount to sell to you if you want :p

D&T style is the only one that will work on SKS. However, I don't suggest that since it will reduce the resale value.

Just get a piece of steel angle and D&T the side of receiver. Then attach weaver base on top of the angle. Very simple.

Ya thats what i figgered,
Oh well iron sights are good to 100 yds so i will live with that i guess.
Funny they sell about a dozen diffrent receiver cover type mounts and there all useless. That kinda sucks eh :(

Agree, wouldn't help a lot unless you are lucky enough to get a low MOA SKS.

Scoped SKS still can't compete with morden hunting rifle, plus it is no longer handy (I wish I knew it at that time).

Why scope an SKS? It was never intended to be used with a scope.

Check Marstar - thye have a scout mount now that replaces the rear sight leaf. Looks like it would be much better than the receiver cover mounts.

Cabin plinkers.

go to the Kalinka Optics site to find if there is a real thing available. They have authentic mounts for Moison Nagants, as well as appropriate scopes. Their financail office is in U.S,, but ordering and shipping is via warehouse in St Petersburg, Russia.

No hassle at all getting stuff from them (they did not sign the Arsehole Pan American Treaty!). Delivery is moderately slow, but actually faster than it now is to get stuff across the U.S. border.

I ran a "scout" setup on my SKS back when I still had it. It consisted of a Millet rear-sight replacement Weaver rail and a Kobra red-dot sight from Kalinka. Not really worth the time or money, I would advise you simply shoot the damn thing.

If your going to use a mount get a Choate Drill and Tap weaver rail.

It will throw off your cheek weld though. You might want to use a stock riser as well.

I went this route. It served it's purpose at the time. I have since sold it.

Hope this helps...
