scope mounts ror rem 700

I have a rem 700 bdl 30-06, I want to keep the open sights on as well as mount a bushnell elite 3200 3-9x40, and still be able to get the lens cover on and off. What combination of bases and rings would be my best bet? Is this going to make my scope sit abnormally high?

Not really, try a medium height set of rings, that should get the scope up enough to get the covers on. You might get away with a low set, depends how thick the covers are. - dan
