Hey guys i got one of the new Ruger Precision Rifles in .308 on the way. I was wondering what kind of rings/mounts you would recommend. This is my first super accurate precision rifle. I do handload and have shot 4 touching groups with my dads gun but he's always set them up. I have already decided on a Vortex Viper HST for a scope. So let me know what you would run for rings or mounts (like cantilevers or whatever)

Thanks in advance.

Nightforce makes fantastic rings but carry a heft price premium. Leupold PRW/QRW are a great alternative as well at a lower price point. The Burris Xtreme Tactical rings are also another solid option.

Look into the Burris Zee rings. If you have some headroom in budget, get the QD zee rings.

I have one (non signature) since couldn't get a low mount of the signature version. I have it mounted on my Savage 10TR. I like how it mounts on the rails where a bolt goes through the rail which prevents any movement during recoil.

The signature is a bit better as it has plastic inserts which prevents the scope tube from being marred. Mine came with a sticker pad (friction pad). The instructions recommended for it to be installed on the lower portions of the rings only.

TPS, Leupold Mark 4, Leupold PRS, Near Alpha mount, SPUHR mount.

I use these and highly recommend them. I do find the Mark 4's to be a bit over priced though.

What your paying for in most high end rings is quality of machining and tight tolerances. Any of the top makers are going to be comparable. Some do throw in extras built in like, bubble levels or attachments for red dots and things like that. But unless you have very precise measuring equipment I doubt you could say one is better then the rest. They range in prices from ( ballpark figures) 100 for TPS rings, 150 for vortex precision ( made by seekins), 175 for nightforce or high end leupold, 200 ken farrel, 400 for spuhr rings. And many more in between. Is a rifle with sphur mounts going to shoot better with tps rings? Probably not. But they have more features and may hold up ubetter under the most extreme conditions.

Some have recommend burris signature z-rings. The reasons these come up is because they are a pretty unique system. They have a over bored ring size, that uses hard polymer inserts. The benefits of this is,1. it doesnt mark up your scope. 2 the inserts come in different thickness so you can use them get more elevation travel in your scope, better for long range. 3. If your mounting rail is not set true to your bore, you can use the inserts bring the scope true.

Iam the type of guys, how has to make every dollar count in any of my shooting rigs, I use TPS and Burris signature rings.

One final thing to keep in mind, some rings come in different heights so if you want a super low mounted scope, one brand may be the only one that will get you that close.
