So my wife has been casually following my threads on here, and to my surprise today I have a new CZ 452 Varmit.

Having never shot a 22 ever, nor any rifle for that matter, I need some help getting setup with a scope.

I need 2 suggestions, one around $500, one around $200 or less. They can be less if something offers a better value, but I don't want junk that I need to upgrade later. Buy once to stay with this rifle kinda idea.

This will be for learning precision shooting.

All I have looked at so far is the Leupold VX line, but are not certain they are what I need.

I'll mostly be shooting 50-100, maybe the odd 200 just for kicks.

I plan a larger rifle later.

Let me know what you think please!

Thanks :)

I bought the new Zeiss Terra 2-7x for $400. Its not a .22 specific scope but Im very happy with it and have it on my new .22 rifle. The Nikon P-22 scopes are supposed to be very nice and around $190 if you can find one.

On the CZ 452 Silhouette model rifle I picked the Sightron SII 3-12x42AO Duplex Satin

I'm not sure it's available in Canada any more :-(

Target knobs and a sunshade are handy

Send yer wife up here with yer iron, I'd be mor'in happy to help her out
with optics.
I put a Sightron S1 3-9x32RF on my wee little CZ Scout.
Nice little scope.
4Scopes and I saw some sight sponsor selling them for a bit less
than this gal brought up from down south.
Forget the dealer up here, but with a bit of luck........where are you?

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I have some research to do :)

kamlooky, I'm in the lower mainland, BC. I believe the rep for Sightron is Mystic Precision?

Jerry is good to deal with.
Has great info and prices to match.
Re-read my post.

I was teasing about sending your wife up here.
Any gal buying her gent a powder burner has me
nose twitch'in........aye Candyman?....................

Tried out a Zeiss terra 3-9 rz6 reticle from plain sight solutions today. Awesome scope. Was shooting targets in post sunset conditions with the scope pointed toward the sunset's general direction. In case you've never tried that, it will give the scope a workout. I shot several dime sized 3 shot groups at 30 yards with my former 22lr rifle while sighting it in, in those conditions tonight. I have a 4-12 in the same scope line with the rz8 reticle.
As a side note on the gun, get the CZ rings. They're more expensive, but they don't move, and they fit without any guessing, from you or the salesman, which ones you need... You're looking for the ones with the 11mm dovetail. Also, I have bought 3 scopes so far from omar at plain sight solutions over text message, and highly recommend him. His info can be found under the dealer network tab of the forum navigation bar. I will be buying more scopes from him....
You will not be sorry if you buy zeiss glass from my experience..... You'll either want to get a scope leveling kit and torque screwdriver, or you'll want to have it professionally installed... If you're like me and swap scopes between rifles on a biweekly basis, you'll want the kit. If you not going to swap around, just get someone to do it for you.

I put a 3-9 x 42 Sightron HHT on my Marlin 39M with the idea that the reticle might be good for a gopher gun.
It will get tested today to see how it works at 25, 50 and 100 yards.
The scope was a prize so nothing ventured.

Got it on target at 25, then went to 50 and then 100.
Using the bottom dot at centered at 100 with CCI MiniMags HP, it grouped 1" high at 50 using the first dot below the cross hairs.
CCI MiniMags solid grouped about 1/2" high at 50 yards but at 100 they were 1" right and 1.5" low.
Since my intention was to sight in using HP's, the solids were only a test.
A flyer was always in the ointment and 1" groups at 50 are possible.
The scope indexed well.
Any gophers hit would not know the difference . . .

Pics not working for me.

I picked up a Leupold VX-2 3-9x39 today as they were in stock, and I want to go shooting :)

Thank you all for your awesome information, it was much appreciated.

My 452 is wearing a vortex viper 3-9. Awesome glass for the price. It comes really close to my zeiss conquest in clarity.

Tons of clearance on the bolt handle as well. Dip rail and leupold prw medium rings.
