I know there are a couple (or more) threads showing mounting of scope rails for an SKS but I thought I'd put up some pics of mine as it was a fairly simple process of replacing the receiver cover with no drilling and tapping required. I did have to grind down the length of the two front ends that butt up against the bolt carrier. The part cost about $22 delivered so I thought that was reasonable. I found the vendor for this part on Ebay. PM me if you can't find it.

Here's a close up of the mount:

The scope is an AIM 3-9 x 40. I haven't had it out to the range yet but hope to do that this week to sight it in.

The thing I liked about this carrier is it has a gap beneath the scope so you can still use the iron sights if you want to.

Here's an angled view showing that:

Happy shooting.

Prospector, dont be too surprised if it wont hold zero, reciever cover mounts are notorious for that. The cover just takes too much abuse form the bolt carrier. Let us know how it goes anyways.

By the way does anyone have one of those Russian/borg side mount dovetail setups for the POSP scope on their SKS?

I like this one:

Semi - custom job. I think it was a solid steel Chinese unit, that is no longer being imported. Does anyone know if a PU base could be modified to do the job? I know, I know, bubbaing a PU scope base. I see this type of set up as almost perfect. Rugged PU scope, short scope is not in the way of the flying empties, can use stripper clips. I can't see any drawbacks, except to encourage bubba. :D

fat tony, I believe westrifle sells, or was selling similar mounts. I think they were aluminum and used a svd style rail instead of the mosin rail pictured. I like that one the best tho, best looking sks scope mount IMO.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news,... but every scope Ive seen is mounted way too high.

Are there no mentors to help these guys out on their first attempt to mount a scope to avoid this type of visual horror and firearm fugly?.:HR:

Fat Tony: I have that exact mount and rail sitting in my parts bin. Mine does not have the marking CHINA on the side though. Came with the same 4x20 scope...
