Scope of your choice

Greetings - I have a 700P in .308 that likley shoots better than I can. I have come to realize that my $ should go into optics. If you had $2000.00 to spend on optics for that gun what would you get? Interested in seeing exactly what I am trying to shoot so was thinking 30X or higher.

It may be hard to finder better value for your money than a Sightron SIII, in either an 8-32 or 10-50. I looked through just about everything I could get my hands on under $2k and I am very happy with my Sightron.
 
just got my sightron and love it had to take it outside at dusk to play around awesome. was playing with a friend nightforce @ 42 power on sunday out at 300 yards and i understand why he spent the money he did ( which wasnt all that bad)
 
Scope

Just getting into the game but was thinking that I would like to do the 1000 yd stuff. It is nice to be able to see exactly what you are shooting at even at 200. I have a Bushnell 4200 4X to 16X on now and would like a bit more magnification.

I am thinking of the Night Force that was suggested.

My 308 wears a 3.5-15x50mm NXS but if you think you want more power then you should go with the 5.5-22x56mm NXS and go from there. You won't be disappointed either way.

Are you only shooting paper? Or will you be hunting too? I ask because IMHO for a hunting scope, you need to think about a more reasonable low power.
If you are just shooting paper, the 10x-40x or the 12x-42 isn't unreasonable; but for game, I think I'd want my lowest power to be no more than about 6x.
 
The NA distributor for march is a br gun maker in the US he has export permits and can ship the scopes to Canada. March makes a 6-60 or 8-80 power scope and high power fixed scopes. They have what you are looking for. Nf is a great second choice. March scopes are as clear as you can buy and have the elevation you need to shoot long distances. Call the guys in the U.S. You might be surprised to learn they are not too too expensive.

Sightron are very good optics and use glass only one or two levels below march. For my eyes sightrons don't work. S&b do swaro do and so do march, they are crystal clear and sit on top of a lot of winning rifles.

You don't see many march as they only make 1200 scopes a year and they work very well in the field so they get bought up quick.
 
I have a 700P in 308 with a Nightforce 5.5-22x56 NXS from ATRS arriving tomorrow if Canada Post keeps their part of the bargain.

Hope to have it out to the range before xmas.

Not cheap but it should be the only scope I will need to buy for many years... until I get another rifle that is :p

This is One very fine optic. I prefer it over the fixed 36 power sightron for precision work as its easier to see the bullet holes through the NF even though its 22 as opposed to 36. This is likely one of the best all around scopes made. Repeatable, clear, plenty of built in MOA adjustments, ultra Rugged (more so than the BR models) and almost $1K less expensive than the next step up, which is only a marginal step up. (S&B, March, PR)
