I’m looking to upgrade scopes for a prs build, and I’d like to hear some other options I may not know about??
what’s in between a vortex viper gen 2 and a razor gen2?
My Needs are
Zero stop
Ffp
4-25ish power range
Christmas tree style retical
Mil mill

On the EE lot’s of gen 2 4-27 razors pop up between 2.2-2.5K,
You wouldn’t regret it.

Can’t comment for other scopes, but can for these,
Currently own pst gen ll 5-25, razor gen 2 4.5-27 and NF ATACR 5-25, all in FFP,
The NF is definitely the nicest of the 3, but the razor especially second hand priced, is a lot of bang for buck.
Pst genll is on a third fun gun, while being leaps and bounds ahead of the pst gen 1 i sold, still is behind by a good margin from the razor gen 2

Also i had the chance to look through a Delta Stryker at 900M, was quite impressive for it’s price point.

I know you've looked through most of the fancy stuff. In your opinion, where does the ETR fall into line glass wise? Gen 2 Razor? Sightron Siii?

With the ED glass, the resolution and clarity at LR is really good and I would put it as a top contender in the sub $2k scopes. It is just a hint behind the Athlon Cronus BTR and Delta Stryker FFPs when I did my resolution test at 1035yds. The Cronus and Stryker were just a hint behind a S&B high power I did a side by side comparison with. You are right on the heels of some superb Alpha glass for a whole lot less cash.

I had no issue quartering a milk jug sized rock at 1 mile with the Ares ETR at moderate mag... 24X if memory serves.

the best viewing is in the mid range of the mag.. say 10X to 26X. It does drop off a bit at 30X. Ideal for my needs as I will rarely go over 24X in competition... being able to separate targets from background is easy with these lenses.

Tracking is absolutely deadly.

the reticle is well laid out and offers the adjustments I need/want in competition. The center dot is super fine and makes precise aiming possible at high mag despite being a FFP scope. This reticle is one of the few I would consider for F class shooting in an FFP scope

really liking these scopes.

How does the glass compare with the viper gen 2 and the razor gen2

More like Gen2 Razor.

If you want to save even more and don't need the ED resolution/clarity and be less hindered by mirage, have a look at the new gen Midas TAC 30 and 34mm scopes. These share the same internals as the Ares ETR but uses HD lenses. My tests with the 30mm tac showed it to track and match the reticle as well as the Ares ETR.

The HD lenses are still very clear but again, a hint behind the ED lenses and will pick up and be affected by mirage more. for most shooters, it will be an improvement from the consumer grade lenses in the sub $1500 market.

the Midas TAC are full featured scopes and a fantastic entry point in a FFP scope suitable for all sorts of competition and LR shooting. Athlon continues to be the most popular brand in NRL22 competition in the US... and these new Midas TACs offer the performance needed at very competitive pricing.

I have the Cronus btr, gen 2 razor and the etr. Btr and razor "feel" comparable to me and a step above the etr. The etr is very good and light years ahead of the pst. .
