been looking for a stevens 200 in 22-250 for a while now on different hunting sites but it seems like nobody is selling any used ones? must be a good sign;)

where would be the cheapest place to grab a new one?

im also having trouble deciding on what scope/power to get. ill be using this gun for crow, groundhog, fox, and coyote. around here you can hunt from thick cedar bush where shots might be out to 30 yards but then walk 100 yards and be able to hunt wide open fields where shots could be 500 yards.

what power range would be best for this kinda hunting?

are bases included or will i need to purchase those? what bases would i need?

what height rings for this rifle assuming i get a scope with 40mm objective?


i know they are basic questions but no shops around here have these guns...

When buying scopes I tend to match the price of the rifle with the price of a scope, then decide on power/objective size. Nothing worse then wasting money on a cheap scope and have to go upgrade to decent glass.
You can get some real nice 3-9x40's in Elites, Fullfield II's even Zeiss Conquests for cheap.
 
Just picked up a Stevens 200 in .243 myself. I put a NIB Simmons 4-14x40mmAO on it only because I had it sitting around looking for a rifle. Will try it out, it it doesn't prove to be satisfactory I have other options as well.

If I was getting one in .22-250 I'd probably put some sort of a 4-12x40mmAO on it, too.
 
my fail safe scope is the bushnell 3200 3-9x40mm

will a 4-12 be powerful enough for a crow at say 400 yards? i had a bushnell banner 6-18x50 on my 17hmr but sold it because it was too powerful and heavy. didnt have it long enough to check anything out that far away.

actually, besides my 303, this is will be my only other centerfire. cant use them around here for anything but varmints so i havent bothered to buy one until now. no more lucky yotes staying out of shotgun/17hmr range:sniper:

would it be best to get a mildot reticle, target turrets, or....?
 
400 yards....I'd say 4-12x40 or 5-15x40.
I have the Bushnell Elite 3200 5-15x40 with Mil-dot reticle and target turrets on my Ruger M77 22-250. It is perfect and I wouldn't want any less magnification for my type of hunting which sounds similar to yours
You will spend between $250 and $400 for this scope
p.s. the target turrets are completely unneccesary for hunting needs and you can save a few ounces if you go without.

.................Bases are not included. Two Weaver #46's and your set. I have a .30-06 Stevens and it shoots great. Its topped with a Leupold FXII
6x36 fixed power mounted in Weaver Grand Slam rings.

what height rings will i need assuming i get a 40mm objective scope with 1 " tube? i like to have the scope as low as possible;)

When I put the Simmons 4-12x40mmAO on my Stevens 200 in .243 Win it was in steel B-Square Lynx rings, medium height, on Weaver #46 bases. Funny, I have a NIB Bushnell Legend 5-15x40mm mil-dot in the cupboard, too but I wanted to try the Simmons on it first. Anyway, you can probably get away with medium height rings with the Bushnell, too.
