Can anyone tell me what the heck this little cylinder is, at the bottom of my scope, that sticks out at a 45 degree angle?

ps: this is on an inexpensive Bushnell 6-18x40 Rimfire scope

Every time the rifle is fired, it clicks the rounds fired clawk inside the scope.
Usually it's on the bawttum right side.
Twisting thuh nawb will locate it in either corner.
Push it in to reset the counter.

Great feature..............................:onCrack:

Looks to me to be the 4.5-18x40 Bushnel AR Optic, which I just bought. But I could be wrong.

You are probably right, I just grabbed an image using Google, rather than taking a photo of my scope. The reason I was asking is that I just purchased a very inexpensive Bushnell 6-18x40 scope and this projecting "gas port" is causing a slight clearance problem with my rail. THe "gas port" is causing my scope to be canted about 2 degrees. The rail and barrel that it is attached to, are much more expensive than the scope, and I don't want to replace my Warne QD rings with a higher set, so I was hoping I could file about 1mm off of the bottom edge of the "gas port".

As a person who, on occasion, fixes things till they break I'd "fix it" if we're only talking 1mm. However any warranty or resale would suffer. The catch is not breaking or weakening the seal.

Looks like we have almost the same set up but I used a Mueller 4.5x14AO, deadly on the pests.

I'm liking it so far, it seems like a very nice weight/balance for shooting off-hand.

Well I took a file to my scope and gentle filed the protruding gas port, but after rechecking the clearance I quickly realized that I was going to need to remove much more material, than I had hoped, in order to level the scope...I know what you are thinking, "this guy is about to ruin a brand new scope"...so I filed some more and it really didn't make much difference. I was going to have to remove even more. After filing and test fitting about 6 times, I finally managed to level the scope. The good news is that it does not appear to have compromised the gas seal, even though I reduced the protruding portion by at least 50%. So it seems to have been succesful, but I sure would not recommend this method for a valuable scope :)

I believe that is the Burris posi lock. Once the scope is sighted in it supposedly locks that setting until the posi lock is loosened.

The scope comes with a special tool for the locking system.

Did you even look at the second pic where the turret is visible and says "Bushnell"? Or the word he typed where he said "Bushnell"? Might as well have said it was the carburetor, for all the effort you put into your observations.
