Scope recommendation for a .350 RM Ruger M77

I have the exact same rifle but I went a little differently than is being suggested for scoping it. For pretty good reason the 350 magnum is often thought of as a short range cannon, it packs a lot of energy and good for that chore but look at the ballistics. .. its no short range affair at all and in my world longer shots can present themselves. I went with a 2.5-10x40 Monarch. The rifle weights 8 lb 4 oz as set up and yes you could knock a quarter pound off easily with smaller glass but I find it a handy enough rifle as is and like having the 10 power for longer range shooting.

Will be using Ruger rings. No iron sights on this M77 either so scoped its going to be. Anyone have experience with thhe Nikon 1-4x20mm? I believe it has a wider field of view than the Leupys.

I have a couple of old Weavers that I was thinking of pressing into service - a K1 and K4. The K1 has a reticle similar to a German #4 and sits on my .358 BLR now. Not sure if either would stand up to the .350 RM recoil though. Plus I want as much eye relief as possible.[/QUOTE]

The FXII Ultralight 2.5x20 Leupold has almost 5" of eye relief - pretty hard to beat that without going to a Scout Scope. The regular FXII 4x33 has 4"/

Lots of good suggestions here. Would prefer to go with a short variable like the Leupys mentioned. Didn't know Leica made scopes other than spotting scopes, rangefinders and the ELCAN Spectre 1/4X.

Not interested in a 3-9X as the terrain I plan to hunt is dense bush. Would only use the Weavers until I could invest in a new scope which is not right now. The K1 is a nice scope as its basically a manified open sight good for quick target acquisition for someone with fading eyesight (me). Its good in daylight but not so good in dim light (found this out the hard way this past deer season).

It handles the recoil of my .358 no problem but it more of a hard push than a sharp smack like my .270WSM. Expecting even more of a smack with the .350 RM (haven't shot it yet). The Weavers are both old steel tubed El Paso's. Wouldn't want to break the K1 as its not easy to find. K4s are moe common.

Anyone able to comment on the Nikon? I have a 3.5-10X Monarch on my Tikka T3 and its a great scope especially at dawn and dusk.

(come to think of it I dont think I have any large game hunting rifles without iron sights ...?)

Yeah I was surprised to see that too about the Ruger especially chambered in .350 RM. But my .270WSM Tikka T3 is the same. Maybe it's a magnum or marketing thing like scopes with extreme magnification ratios.
