I have a Bushnell Banner 6-24x40 but I have a feeling the length of it will look wierd on the M14 so I am thinking of selling it and getting a different one.

What scope would you guys recommend for $300 or less (not a penny more) for the M14, something that will look a bit more like it belongs on there, something not so long.

Or am I being too picky?

Thanks!!

Forget the look, what are you intending to use it for?
My M14 has had my 8x-32x50 on to squeeze out the most accuracy, a 3x-9x56 on for some low-light coyote problems and it currently wears a 1.5x-4.5-20 because it's fast. If anyone (like Rooster33 or GG&FB ever get their act together and make a long scout mount available I'll mount a red-dot.

Don't sell your scope, you'll regret it. leave it on the rings and you can swap it on when you need a higher magnification.

Ive got the leupold clones on two of my m14s and so far (about 300 rounds between the two of them) so good. The only thing I don't like about them is you can't set the turret back to '0' after sighting them in.

I saw a NIMROD on a M14, the turrets are located on the left and top to free up the right side for ejecting cases, nice reticle too.

Scarce and Pricey, but sometimes they pop up on E-bay.

i've never had issues with brass hitting the scope, but it may be that mine are see-through- wouldn't turning the scope 90 degrees accomplish the same thing?- ie make the elevation into windage on the left side, and turn the windage into elevation?

I had some problems with brass hitting the windage knob on my Bush 3200, but after turning the scope left at 90 degrees, I solved the problem...
also, have seen pictures of US marines rifles with the same position of the scope :)
