Scope recommendations

For what purpose? A hunting scope is the same as a target shooting scope. Your budget matters too.

I don't agree with this. For hunting you'd want a wide field of view as a high priority especially if you're in bush of almost any sort. That said, your scope needs to suit the conditions in which you hunt and ranging reticles can be useful at longer ranges.

For target, I'd get the highest variable power, good quality scope that you can afford. A simple cross haired reticle works fine and I'd sink the money into magnification rather than a fancy reticle. If you are shooting long range, a Mil or MOA reticle might help with windage if you are shooting the gusts. While I kinda like 1/8 MOA turrets they are not essential. The most important thing I'd look for (assuming acceptable quality glass) is repeatable adjustments to the turrets/POA.

M14 type rifles are known to be hard on scopes so a quality piece is preferred. Now to specifics: for general use I often recommend a Bushnell Elite 10x as being the value buy. Very good scope, fixed power of course with a 1" tube and exposed target turrets. Only real downside IMO is the reticle being a bit too thick; now for hunting consider a 3-9 variable - I have a Zeiss Conquest on one of mine and, again, it is a quality piece of glass that certainly does the job of being a good choice for hunting. For target work I like LOTS of magnification but the M14 poses a problem in that a large scope really affects user ergonomics (and even a Coyote cheek rest has limitations) so some of my favorite scopes (like NF NXS) never feel right on these rifles. A scope that does work well is the Leupold Mk4 as it isn't too large (only 50mm objective) and still has good magnification ( mine is 8.5-25 ).

Of course you didn't mention budget and so in the above answer you have a $250 $600 and $1800 solution :)

Thanks for the input. What does a Leupold mk4 go for?

OP - look at a review I wrote for optics for newer precision rifle shooter. Will give you some ideas. BTW - my Mk4 nearer two grand - see one for 1600 get two and sell me one :)

I don't know what your budget is, but if Sightron SIII scopes are around the $900-1200. They get you a lot of optics for the price. I have an SIII 10-50x, and I like it quite a bit.

Thanks for the input guys. 1600 is a bit out of my price range. Looking for something cheaper

Depends on the Leupold you are looking at. I have a Mk4 2.5-8x32. I paid around $950 for it. Will be good for hunting as well as range shooting to the distances I shoot to.

It is mounted on an ARMS 18 mount and Low ARMS 22 rings.
