Scope$$$ Rifle$$$ Brand names and Quality

I find it pretty tough to beat a Leupold. The service center is close to me, I have had scopes replaced and repaired on warranty, reticles changed, paralax adjustments done, everything with great service. I buy quite a few used loopy's on the internet and have no worries. One got delivered with a broken main tube, the next week I had a brand new one at no charge. If I want a vxII 3-9x40 with a target dot, and paralaxed at 50yds for my .22, send it to Okotoks and it's done. I think loopy's are good products with excellent customer service and warranty second to none.

X2 :agree:

The finest glass I have ever looked through was a Hensoldt sniper scope... followed closely by Schmidt and Bender... optonica ( a company formed by S and B's engineers) teamed with Premier and produced an excellent optic as well..Kahles do make very good optics... a ZF84 in 10 power with a #22 reticle would not be hard to live with...

FWIW,
Kahles is no more, apparently the company closed/went under last year. At least that's what the internet says.

They didn't really close or go under. Kahles is the oldest sport optics manufacturing company in Europe, but has recently been bought out by Swarovski. Presently, there is no distributor or warranty centre in North America, but things change so who knows what is in the works.

Leica is coming out with a new riflescope this year. I have a pair of the discontinued Ultravid scopes, similar to the Leupold LPS. The Ultravids were
assembled in North America with European design and parts, Leica glass, 30mm tube etc. They had problems with one of the models, and the whole line got discontinued quite a few years ago. Apparently Leica was not happy with the manufacturing they out-souced in the US (who just happens to be Leupold) and that was the end. To make a long story short, they have a new 100% Euro riflescope ready to hit the market real soon. If cost is no object, take a look at them.

Bushnell Trophy, B&L/Bushnell Elite series, Leupold VX-II's & III's. Have all worked well for me. Weaver bases & Burris "Z" rings are my preferred mounting system.

NAA.

Just to set the story right. Many of us older to middle age guys will put out more money on optics than we will rifles. Eye site goes with age & for the most part, good scopes hold more of their original value than rifles if you buy quality stuff. I've said this before & will say it again: A rifle will do nothing for your cheap scope, but a quality scope will do wonders for your cheap rifle.

We've been in contact by pony express only! Was a relief for the whole community when she lite-out! Treateateat'r'right, aye!

Hey two-dogs hows it hangin? Say hi to Gus for me when you let him out of the closet ok?
So how come nobody talks about Nikon? I read recently that Leupy and Nikon basically share equal parts of the US market. I have a Leupy VXIII and I have a Nikon Monarch too and seems to me the Nikon optics are better. Leupies optics are good but not the best by far but they are famous for their warranty. I have 3 Nikons, a Buckmaster, a Prostaff and a Monarch. They are pretty easy on these old eyes.

Hey bud, good to hear from ya! Got Gus out of the shed today, put him in the truck of a car, supposed to rain, gotta redress him for the summer, he's faded into a pure white boy! Leupy's have a no bulk appearance about them and OOO-soooo pretty, a life time warranty, and I can see good "through" them! Went I ain't looken "through" 'em, I'm looken at 'em and droooolen! D likes the Nikon

I like my Leupie too and it is definitely a good scope. They hold their value too but the Nikons work for me too. Far as I go I have a lot of decent glass.
Me happy. Me go shoot gun. Woo Hoo. The big surprise was the spotting scope I got at London Drugs of all places. A 55x Pentax and its a beaut. I can read the lettering on the small parking signs 500yds away. I have sold a couple for them just by letting other people use them at the range. Fabulous optics and under $400. Taking it out tomorrow for a day on the mountain. I love the smell of cordite in the morning....
