Scope, rings and base for husqvarna 30.06

Hi all.

Not being familiar with scopes and mount selection, I need advise for mounting on a husqvarna 30.06 light weight. Thinking of using a Bushnell 4200 or 3200 and would consider seethru mounts for close in.

I'd opt for a leupold variable, lighter and tougher. No use putting a heavy scope on a nice lightweight husqvarna. You can pick up varix ll quite reasonably, or better yet a vxll. See through mounts only force the scope to be mounted higher, which makes it necessary to raise your cheek above the stock more. ( that will increase the recoil even more than the significant amount it already is) They're not the latest fashion but Weavers are lightweight, available, and have given me no grief, other than marking the scope a bit. You could use Burris mounts as well if you want steel. I'm no fan of the Leupold mounts with rear windage adjustments, just something else to go wrong and they are no lightweights.

I have a husky lightweight and mounted a leupold rifleman 3-9 ( I love this scope it mounts lower than other leupys and is light). Leopold makes husqvarna mauser bases in their standard one piece base that fit the rifle and it's chamber perfectly, it is what I had put on. They are excellent mounting low and fitting the rifle really well. Use standard 1 inch low rings.

Check the leupold website they have a ring and mount selector by rifle and by scope type.
 
You are on the right track with an elite, the only Leupold I would consider over a 4200 would be a Vari-X III,but then not by much. I'd mount that scope as low as you can go while still allowing for you bolt lift. I like Talley and Leupold mounts.

I have a Husky 3000 Crown grade in 30/06. I mounted a Bushnell 4200 Elite 1.5-6 36mm and love it. Would say it was better than the Leupold VXII and on par with the VXIII great scope for the money. The rain guard feature is great.

Forget about useing the see-thru for "close in". They are about the worst rifle mount out there. Prone to damage and cause the shooter to lift his head off the stock for proper sight picture.

For close shots, it would be be much prefered to use a lower powered scope like a 2x7 or 1.5x4.5. I use the lower settings on my scope ALOT more than the higher. Even the 3 power setting on a 3x9 can be too much in thick woods.

I'd agree on the magnification, but I believe they are about 16 ounces, which is unnecessarily heavy for a lightweight rifle, IMO. Kind of like putting a bipod on a mountain rifle!
 
It sounds as though I have the same thing that I recently inherited from my Dad. a 30-06 Husqvarna Light weight or Feather weight. I didn't like the height of see through mounts but as I still wanted use ofthe iron sights, if the need should arise, I opted for a set of Weaver Pivot mounts. The mounts have worked so well for me that I ended up putting the same mounts on my Marlin 444 & 1895 Marlin GS in .45-70.

With the VXll more like same money and 5+ ounces, less critical eye relief, better resale and warranty. That being said, it's not my money and I don't have to pack it around!
 
I have a crown grade husqvarna and went with Millet base/rings that hold a Burris Fullfield 3-9x40 just about where god would have wanted it and would highly recommend this combo for the rifle.:D For your lightweight Husqy 'otter I would go with a smaller scope like a 2-7x33. Go with some nice rings - Leupy, burris, millet, talley etc. the rifle deserves it;) enjoy..

Well, I have three of these rifles and I'm a big fan of Con-trol mounts and rings. The .308 and 30/06 wear Leupold 3x9 Compacts, the .358 Norma wears higher powered Leupold glass.

Anyway, this setup is slick and smooth; looks like this:

Given the reputation and my appreciation for the Husky I am in favour of $$ for quality. The feedback is exactly what I wanted as my knowledge is limited on scopes and mounts.
