Hey guys, I took my new rifle (the first) out for a shoot over the weekend and a freaking blast! After finding zero with the irons I was able to get some fairly decent groups by the end of 50 rounds. I was also surprised by how little recoil there was, I certainly have the fever now.

My question is now about optics, or how to mount them on to be specific. I will be getting a ProMag AMRS18 copy with the split rail and I would like to mount a 3x9 Bushnell Trophy XLT with the DOA 600 reticle. Having no experience in mounting optics, I'm wondering what the difference between Low, Medium, and High actually equates to. The XLT is a 1" diameter tube with a 40mm front objective, I would like to keep it as close to the rifle as possible while keeping a solid zero.

Does anyone know how high off the receiver the older ARMS18 is? I'll probably be getting some Leupold 1" PRW rings but am totally open to suggestions.

Thanks for any and all info!

Go with medium height. I found low to be a little tight due to the rear sight aperture, even with it cranked down all the way

I have Warne ones. Solid but expensive. Buy good quality rings... and optic too : recoil on M305 is hard on them. If not, you won't hold your zero and optic may be damaged.

I put medium height steel Leupold QRW ones on mine with a Weaver K6 fixed (6x), which then needed a cheek rest/riser, but it's solid and is holding zero after 5 years so far.
