Hi guys,

I have a Tikka T3 in .223 and need a high quality scope. This rifle is mostly for target shooting and hopefully a little varmint eradicating when I get the chance. I was thinking Leupold for quality/warranty. Target shooting will probably be 50-300 yds. but room to grow would be nice. As for budget, I'm thinking $400 or so? let me know..

If you have any suggestions please let me know,

thanks.

I have a T3 in .223 topped with a Nikon Buckmasters and am pleased with this scope.

thanks for the replies so far. No one has mentioned Leupold, is $400 too inexpensive?

The Falcon Menace 4.5-18x56 looks pretty sweet (thanks canucklehead). I emailed Allen Gunworks, so I'll find out about that shortly.

KDX - I see there is a lifetime warranty with the Nikon Buckmasters, have you ever had to send it away? any problems, ever? Also what kind of rings did you use to mount it with? cost?

The Burris fullfield looks pretty good aswell, and I can get a free spotting scope when I buy at Cabelas...

thanks again for your input.

Honestly, I'd never recommend a Leupold. There are just too many other good options that deliver as much or more for less $$$. Not that Leupolds are BAD scopes - I have a few - just over priced.

Oh, and I have one of the Falcon 4.5-18x56's on pre-order, so I'll let you know :) :)

56mm x 30mm tube is HUGE. I have about 3 scopes this size, and they are just enormous. Probably not a good fit on a sporter-weight gun

Thanks for that tidbit. I might want something a bit smaller. gonna check out the 10x42mm now.

EDIT: I like the crosshairs on the 56 x 30mm better, besides this will be a bench rifle mostly

I've never had to send it away, so I can't comment on the warranty. I am using some Leupold rings that seem to be pretty good. It is a very nice clear scope. It's my 'best' scope so it's not saying much by most people's standards here, but last winter I was out hunting coyotes (I hadn't used the scope much) and cruising down the grid from one spot to another one ran across the road in front of me and was trucking through a field. I stopped and brought out the rifle, chambered a round and was watching this coyote running across a frozen slough at about 200 yards (estimate). I didn't even bother taking the shot because I was so impressed with the view I was seeing. I will slowly work my way up to better scopes as funds permit, but I can say I'm totally impressed with this scope and would recommend one to anybody.

I have a Leupold 4 -12 X 40 Rifleman on my T3 .223, it does what I ask of it.

Paid $312 for it from Canadian Tire, low priced, clear optics and lifetime warranty. I'm happy with it.

I, too, have a Nikon 4.5 x 14 on my .223 T3 Tikka, in Leupold rings.

It's a fine scope for varmints. I got the mil-dot version off E-Bay.
To my eyes it is just as bright and clear throughout its magnification range as my high end Leupold scopes - but then, my eyes are not so young any more. For 400 or so bucks, it's a good value scope IMHO.

I have just received my EGW rail from Cyberk, (Thanks Mike!) so now I can switch over to my TPS rings....it'll be rock solid.
