scope talk - savage 22 btvs

You guys are swaying me slowly... How can I try before I buy? I guess a good purchase is one that lasts.

How can I avoid making a mistake / buying something that I hate?

It's hard to tell in a store when looking through them, but I can guarantee that you will not regret spending extra $$$ on a higher end scope than you planned for. Two years from now you will not miss the extra money, but you will appreciate the quality and performance of the better scope every time you shoot that gun.

I started off with a Tasco 3-9x32 on my rimfire, now my minimum acceptable scope is a Bushnell 3200 5-15x40AO. I'm not happy with the cost, but I suck it up because I know it will work flawlessly for me every time and in all conditions.

Got a pair of Bushnell Banner 4-12 x 40 AO.

Works well on my CZ 452 Varmint and Style. Cost about 150.00 in 2002, I believe you can get them for less these days.

You can get decent and cheaper adjustable objective variables at Walmart for less than a hundred.

Yep a Tasco 3-9x32 rimfire or the 4-12x Banner AO is fine if you want to go cheap or put on something temporary. But if it's a decent enough gun spend more on a scope.

Go get yourself a Nikon Buckmaster scope. Sure it is a nice chunk of change to throw at a scope but you will be hard pressed to find a negative review of those scopes anywhere.

Besides, if you decide you don't like it anymore you will get just about all your money back when you sell.
