Scope this rifle...

Less then $800, good glass, fibre dot illumination.... it's got tactical in the description but the reticle is a German #4 style with some hold over points.

1-8 Power should suit your needs nicely.

Vector's Continental line is their premium line and come with lifetime transferable warranties.

They make a similar 1-6 that is a bit cheaper but I'd take the extra zoom range personally... nice to have options and I find most scopes look a little nicer at just under their max range.

Guntech's 2-7 firedot suggestion is good as well, nice lighter weight hunting scopes. The illumination option adds a bit of weight but the Vector still comes in at 18.7 ounces.

This "hunting" model does not have the fiber bright red dot but it's illumination will work fine for most situations where you really need it and the reticle is a more traditional German #4 with a floating dot which I like. Bit lighter as well at 16.5 ounces.

Some great suggestions already made above.
From my personal experience, I can second these recommendations:
  • Leupold VX-3 2.5-8x36 or 1.75-6x32
  • Leupold VX-R 2-7x33 with FireDot reticle
  • Trijicon 1-4
  • Kahles 1.5-6x42 or 2-7

Votes on a 3-9x or 2.5-10 x 40

Leupold VX-1 or 2 or freedom in 3-9 sleek light weight scopes. Good eye relief and eye box.. lightweight.. extra strech if you wanted for the range or just to have. My 2 cents

If it were me I'd be looking at a Leupold 2x7 with a standard reticle. The ranges you're describing I wouldn't bother with busy MOA fancy reticles and the 7x is still powerful enough to reach out to 200m easy enough. I've used them for gopher at 200m so pretty sure I could see a moose at that range lol. Plus it's a light scope and proven quality.
