It seems that some scopes have a super thin....edge between the picture and environment...and others are thick...hmm..I don't know if I'm explaining this well. Basically when you look through a scope the edge of the scope tube is thick creating a big black ring around the picture or some scopes have a super this black ring around the picture..I like it when it's super thin..is there technical terms for this? Also is it a quality thing? Maybe higher end optics are better (thinner black rings)....

I think you are seeing scope shadow. It happens when your head is too far from the eyepiece. Try moving your head forwards and it should disappear. Different scopes have different eye relief.

It seems like it might have to do with the size of the lens closest to the eye (don't know the technical name). I have 2 scopes same big lens tube size but the eyes pieces are different sizes. The smaller size seems kinda like I'm looking through a tunnel more so than the scope with the larger eye piece...

The term you are referring to is "eye box" or sight picture.

Do higher end scopes have larger eye box and exit pupil? How does the ocular lens play into picture size/quality? Thanks for the video I actually know how to set up for proper eye box

Yes, they tend to. So do lower power scopes.

Ie: Look at a Razor Gen 2 1-6x scope. What you are talking about looks unreal. It's like a EOtech, etc, but with magnification.

The similar scope, like a Vortex StrikeEagle, or something else won't be nearly as good.

Scope caps affect this too. My Razor Gen 2 suffered more of what you are talking about once I put the caps on. Kinda let down by that, but protection is easy to apply and has it's upsides. I flip them closed when not shooting.

Gen 2 1-6:

Shibby makes an excellent point on the scope caps. I pulled them off my S&B and now run it with only a sunshade for protection (bikini covers for storage). Now when I bring the rifle up the sight picture just "pops" up.

Correct on the exit pupil as well, high is good.

Open your wallet.

It's undoubtably one of the best AR and low powered scopes you can buy. It just costs a lot. I've been on the fence a few times.

I run the PST 1-4 instead which is a bargain compared to other AR optics. Lots of guys in 3G run the PST.

Similar things can be seen with rifle scopes too. My Gen 2 Razor looks better than my Gen 1, which also looks better than other scopes I've owned/tried.

Something few consider when buying scopes. Nice of you to notice and know what you want.

The beauty here is these are easy to test in store and with side by side comparisons.
