Hi all
I was wondering if anyone could give me a rough value of this scope that I got from my Father in Law recently. It's an older Leopould Vari-X-3 in 1.5x5 ( with Weaver rings)that has a few scratches on the body and a tiny chip in the objective lens. (sorry for the crappy pic). When you sight through the scope, the chip is barely noticeable, but it is there... I'm not well versed in scopes, and I have no use for it, any opinions on value?

Are the turret adjustments the "finger" type or the "coin" type? (Under the turret caps) I have an older 1.5-5 that has the coin type adjustments and also a couple of the newer finger adjustable style. The older coin type will not get the same price as the newer finger models but they are still a very good scope. I have 3-4 of these and they're all very good scopes. New prices for the VX3 1.5-5 are about $525 so I'm guessing you can get about $300 for a scope in good condition but in the condition you described I doubt you'd get more than about $200-250. Best of luck.

Thanks very much, I appreciate your advice!

Best bang for the buck, send it in to Leupold and let them tune it up.
Then the confidence would be there for the buyer knowing it just came back
freshly tuned up.

Exactly what 'looky said. Send it to Korth to get checked over. Honestly if the lens has a chip in it you can't expect much cash for it. But if they fix it up and it hasn't got any ring marks ro other bad dings then you could get $250 or so.

Those rings look a bit like grooved rimfire rings. Or am I crazy.

They're my favourite scope.
