my savage .17 is extreamly accurate, after i sight it in, which seems to be every time i go out.

ive got a savage 93r17 in a boyds tacticool stock
barska 6x24x50 scope
weaver high rings

everytime i go out, it seems like my zero has drifted about 6" low. it holds center left to right, but up/down is the problem. i wonder if this is just a scope problem not holding zero, but im extreamly careful with my scope, it never gets knocked around or bumped. and its only a .17 so theres no recoil

ive decided i'm going to glass bed the action, hopefully this will solve some problems. i also bought some burris zee rings, hopefully that will help as well.

i'm also looking for a full length weaver rail, i saw a few months back someone was putting in an order for 20moa rails for the savages, but i cant find the post?

thanks in advance

Now that I think more, I wouldn't say its always drifting the same way.

I just bought it as a cheap scope I can see .17 impacts at 150 yards

Yea I'd say everything is tightened well.

Weather would have only been a +/- of 5 or so degrees, no altitude change

Subbed for tuition free learning and, offering 2 cents..

Curious...any locktite/crazy glue on the scope mounting threads?
I'm not .17 savy but, it's my understanding "zero" for one of those is bigger(smaller?) than my MOB (Minute Of Barn). Does it drift during a session or, just after transit? Same ammo every time?(6" is a big jump, I know) first/only scope mounted to your tackdriver?

If you sight it in and it holds zero until your next visit, I would think a bad scope, loose rings, loose base, but would not think rifle so much

Is it getting knocked around during transport, how good is the case your using, is it too loose in there and is moving about

try another scope if possible

I have the same but using a BSA Sweet 17 scope, and have never had it lose zero, even after I changed from the composite stock to a Boyds stock, it's still a tack driver, if I do my part we can get 5 shots at 50 yards, one on top of another......

how much would the weather shift the impact, curious?

The worst case that I have ever witnessed was with a 700BDL in 25-06,where the point of impact moved 6" vertically at 100 yards. However this was an extreme example where the gun was stored in a location with very low humidity, then it went hunting for a week in very wet conditions.

I have the same savage in .22LR. What I have found is that after I clean the barrel the zero does drift down for about the first 10 shots. After this the point of impact is right back to original. I have learned not to touch the scope adjustments until I've shot at least 10 through the barrel.

I have bedded the action and this did not make a bit of difference to the cold/dry bore shots, but it did make a difference to the groupings.

What I am curious about though is, if you adjust the scope POI 6" up every time havn't you run out of upwards adjustment yet? Or do you adjust it down as the barrel gets warmed, fouled and lubed. If so do you adjust it back to where you started?

After I figured all this out I was able to come in second at my clubs rimfire shoot. Came in second only because during the warm up the targets were above the competition targets. When I took my first warm up shot it went low and into the competion target outer ring....uggh.

My friends Barska scope just crapped out on him after only a couple hundred rounds on his sks. Personally, id never by any of their products.

I only shoot the same, federal premium ammo because its the only stuff that allows me to shoot under .5 moa at 100 yards.

I sight the scope in, shoot off the bench, then walk into my house from the bench, put it in the safe.

Next time I pull it out, same thing, walk to the bench, not driving anywhere, I could shoot a whole box and it'll be in a different spot

My Savage stainless thumbhole had this problem wandering zero every thime I took it out it would group in a different spot and yes I tried different scopes got rid of it and bought a CZ no more problems and using the same scope. But try a different scope before you give up you could also bed the action

Looking over the gun, while figuring out bedding the action, I noticed there is a lot of play in the barrel, but the scope doesn't move.

If I put a small amount of pressure sideways on the barrel, it'll close the gap between the stock and the barrel????

Hmmm

Hmmm

Your barrel should not have any play!!!!!!!

Are you moving the barrel to the stock or are you moving the stock to touch the barrel?

If the barrel moves, which I don't think is possible if rounds are still chambering, you have big issues!

Yup that's my issue, there's absolutly no flex in the stock

I'm going to throw it in the trash and buy a cz at this point
