what power range scopes would a person look at for target shooting? I was looking at a 45-power fixed scope. any ideas?

What matters is the size of your target... You can shoot 1000y with irons if using torso sized plate...

I can see a 3/8" dot at 100y with 6x

I have a Riton X7 3-18x50. This thing has 46 MRAD of elevation. I put it on a CZ 457 LRP I put a 50 MOA rail but couldn't zero at 50m so I swapped out to a 30 MOA rail but haven't used it since. The only drawback is the crosshairs are a tad thick. It does have a dot in the center. I doubt you'd find something else with this amount of elevation, I'd love to be proved wrong. Tesro for the scope $1599, GBT for the Area 419 rails.

I also have a Vortex 4-16x44 Diamondback Tactical, 25 MRAD of elevation. It's on a Ruger LRP. I can watch bullets drop into a gong at 100m with it. Haven't tried it further than that. It's a third of the price, currently $599 at Bullseye North. Both are FFP, the Vortex says it has zero reset, I'm guessing that's not zero stop. I haven't fired mine in a while and can't remember. Do the YouTube thing for reviews.

I topped my first precision rifle (CZ-457 LRP) with a Vortex Viper PST 6-24x on recommend from my LGS. I also have a Diamondback (4-16 I think...) on my Ruger semi.. For my eyes, the Diamondback has a small sight picture so I'd recommend the Diamondback on my limited experience.
I also have a Leupold VX Freedom 3-9x on my .270 and I prefer that to the Diamondback (better sight picture, wider FoV). YMMV.

Shooting 100 meters most of the time, bought a delta javelin and after 2 years of using it still surprise by the clarity and overall quality for the price.

was checking out the new sightron SVIII ED line up. Some impressive reviews out on these scopes.

I used the 4-20 stac a few years ago and was impressed on the glass clarity for the price point back then.

The new line on the stac with zero stop is a contender, but the FFP reticle is just lacking a fine aiming point, or it would be worth a try.

First off ,Youll require a sloped rail if shooting distance with a 22 rimfire. Unless you wanna aim at tree branches 2 feet over your target at 200 yards. (not exact) Just to give an idea. Sighted at 50 yards youll be approx 3inches low at 75 and 7 low at 100. At 200 yards youll be approx 26" low and 250 will be 37" and 400 will be 74" or 6 foot 2 inches. Quality glass is more important than the power of the optic. Many sniper rifles used straight 10X scopes.

I shoot 50 yards to 100 yards with a Anny 54.
My scope is a straight 45 power.
Lots of room for adjustments for the bullet drop.
At 45 power you are able to see the bullet in flight just before the target.
Under the right light conditions.
A clear sight of your POA to a very small field of vision helps.

I just went with the Burris Veracity 3-15x50 Ballistic E1 FFP for my B-14R LH 22LR Trainer Carbon Fibre Rifle.
Looking forward to getting it out soon to see how it performs.

I did look at the 4-20 and 5-25 versions as well. Not sure how far out I want to shoot with this set up yet, so started with the 3-15.
For now, happy to spend the money to determine which ammo is going to provide the best performance in this rifle and learn to shoot with the FFP scope and this reticle. Can always upgrade later if I desire...and if the wife decides she likes it too (also a left handed shooter) can pass this scope on to her.
