I'm fairly new to the world of optics... And haven't got a clue what I'm looking for.... For the most part the gun will be used at the range. Thanks any help would be nice :)

range? exactly- what range? 100-800yards?

I was shopping recently for my m1a which is prolly a similiar deal. heres what I came upon....

minox makes a good, lightweight 1.5-8x which is good for in close and the 8x takes you out there a bit.

When Im at the range I usually have the scope dialed to max all the time- and weight prolly isnt a factor if its just a range gun. If you wanna see the holes at 100 yards look at vortex/bushnell 6-24x. Choose whether or not to listen to optics snobs based on how much money you wanna spend. I simply cant/wont bring myself to spend a G on a scope but have been pretty happy with what I can get from vortex or minox for $500

7.62x39 or 7.62x51? If it's 7.62x39 try the Hi-lux CMR as they have one calibrated in 7.62x39 I believe h ttp://hi-luxoptics.com/product/riflescopes/tactical-scopes/cmr-series/cmr-ak762-tactical-scope/

If 7.62 X 39 go with the CMR-AK calibrated for it, for 308 or 223 the CMR will do perfect ( both are jewel )... JP.

For a price of 1500 and it being a xcr I would say go for a bushnell tactical 1-6.5 or similar lupold has a mk4 1.5-8 that's all you need for a range gun @ 300m and it would work for a heavy metal 3 gun match any more power would be spoiled at that range and this kind of battle rifle should be used off the bench more so

Are you really telling me you'd pick a Bushness over an NF? Over a Vortex HD? A used Elcan DR?

Or are you cheapening the scope choice based on the firearm it's going on??

I would choose a bushnell over a vortex but not a night force that is my fav but can you get one for 1500$? What I was trying to get across is on a rifle of this sort less can be more , less magnification could result in a more practical use of the rifle I think a wide range low power is best suited , so you could make fast shots on close targets and also ring the gong at 300 !

If you are considering spending the money on a Nightforce, I suggest you take a good look at the newer Vortex Razor HD 1-6 Gen II. Probably the same money as the Nightforce, better glass, more user friendly, and a whole league up on the still pretty good Vortex Viper PST 1-4. The Nightforce is fantastic too but I definitely prefer the Vortex HD. My theory is busy the best scope once and never look back. If you ever decide to run 3-gun matches, you need a true 1x power and quick acquisition and can't beat the vortex for that stuff either. Great illumination too.

The minox do you have one? Have you fired it? If so is the occular loose??? I am now true my fourt one , the first one was good and the the occular came loose after 30 round, I have ben reciving and sending scope for 3 monts now! After the first one I got 3 DOA ( Dead on arrival, not dead on accuracy) I am now in desperation and I am waiting on minox usa to see were I go from here...

My opinion, turn around and RUN!!!

could you tell me where to find one in Canada? the reviews are all really good... but the only price ive seen it for was 1899.99 in the u.s. ... that being said it should ONLY be around $3500 here?
