Scopes on lever guns?

This is how i scoped the .444 Marlin sbtennex now owns. I don't think it looked bad. Bottom line is what will allow you to make the most ethical kill shot irons or scopes??? If its irons go with them. If a scope makes you more confident go for that. I have yet to listen to a gun snob.

I think it looks OK too

I stuck a period 2.5 Weaver on this Savage that I inherited
If it hadn't been already d & t'd though, I probably would have left it alone

It would definiaty be wrong, wrong, wrong to scope this one

I've really got to get around to taking some decent pics of my iron

Glass has come a long way, and with the small size they fit lever guns without loosing that feel , and great handling of these brush guns.
I still like the lyman RX peep on my trapper , but at last light anything more than 50 yds would have to be under great field conditions, this is noted each time light conditions are poor.:(:D
Love the butt stock on the Marlin:cool::cool::cool:

So they're old enough that the factory didn't D&T them?

Actually if there that old they probably did have a peep on them,
course would have been a tang peep, no D&T required ;)

All my lever hunting guns have a tang peeps on them :)
But I see nothing wrong with a nice slim low powered scope on a lever gun:)

Now a 6-24x on a sidemounted 94 Win would deff be rednecky :slap:

I guess it all depends on yardage. Myself, shots with my 45/70 are all within 75 yrds, and usually most all the time in the bush. I can hit a running deer much more easily with my open sights than I can with a scope at those short distances. With practice these little guns become an extension of your arm and you just point and shoot without need of a scope.

Those who shoot a longer distance, for sure a scoped rifle is best, but in those cases I prefere to use a bolt action in those long distance circumstances.

I prefer a lever for its speed in the bush, and a bolt when hunting where longer shots are going to happen.

If the old lever needs to be D&T....I agree that it should not be altered to mount a scope...but many have been altered by former owners and rendered "shooters". There are available the side mount base and rings that enable a scope to be mounted on levers using the factory holes. Thus the scope if necessary can be used and removed...thus preserving the authenticity of the gun. These can benefit the low vision shooters by adding a scope. I would rather have a correctly placed shot than have to hazzard a guess. The low powered scopes that are normally used, do not look any more out of place than the foot and a half long target scopes used in competitions.

I respect everyone's opinion but dislike the put down for adding a scope,..... this allowing me to still enjoy the hunting sport. I have a few pre 1910 winnie rifles and carbines in various calibers and enjoy shooting them at targets. Hunting guns do benefit from a scope for those so handicapped.

Tried the offset scope on my Win 94, no good, back to the Williams
Have a scope on my Win 88, shoots fine
Wife has a scope on her Marlin 30/30, she likes it.
