I have a 3-9x50 on my winchester model 70.I don't find it big + clumsy at all. Might be different if I had to carry it around all day but I don't. I only use it when I am hunting deer from my blind.
I have a 3-9x50 leupold on my model 70 as well and dont find the size a problem in any way. I like the field of view of the 3-9, and the little extra brightness of the 50mm
I used it in a treestand - no problem with the extra bulk of a 50mm objective once you're up there. Carrying it in the bush was no problem either - it's just like carrying a varmint rig around...
I used a Bushnell 3200 5-15x50 - catches an amazing amount of light. I could see things through the scope well after I couldn't see them with my naked eye.
It worked too. A well placed 243 shot put meat in the freezer.
im not to worried of the extra bulk..as i will only carry this a few hundred yards,to use in me wack shack..
i just want to know,is it workable to use on the 7600 remmy..
im just looking for that extra edge,to help out these ole eye balls
for me 40 mm is max and i prefer the 33 mm both in low mounts. quality in scopes is more important than size. to me a vx11 in 2x7 is as bright as i need. a cheap 50 mm may well be dimmer than a good 33mm.
thanks all for your responses..as im not that smart on scopes, your input is most welcome here..
i, kind of thought a 50mm would be a bit to much..but i was not sure
im looking for a scope that would be ok to use, within distances of about 50 yards to out to 300 yards..
so now im thinking of something around a 3-9x40..
a 40mm should be ok no?
40mm is great. Invest it higher quality optics, rather than bigger ones. Although a 50mm scope in some see thru mounts would look killer on that pump!! Classic Ontario deer gun
So do I. Leupold 6.5-20x50 on a Winchester M-70 .375 H+H. Yes you have to use high mounts, no the eye relief isn't a problem, it's more than I need, but I still pack the rifle when hunting without a problem.
Personally I don't see the need, But I don't think it would cause too many issues as long as you don't have to walk in heavy slash for long.
Out to 300 yards, a regular 40 will give you enough view, and if it's of good quality, lots of light.
A personal preference decision to my way of thinking.
I have a 3-9x50 VXII on my Sako AIII. I don't think it's too bulky, but this Leupold seems to be smaller/shorter than other 50mm obj scopes I've seen. I wouldn't turn my nose up at a deal on a 40mm, though.
