Scoping 45/70, opinions?

Leupold VXIII or older model Vari-XIII 1.5-5X20
I have three of them on marlin Guide guns. If you want to pay - $$$ then a VXII 1-4X20 I also have a Burris FFII 1.75-5X20mm that works good. I like the Leupolds better though. I hope this helps. Good luck !

I am very happy with a Leupold mount and the FX 4 - 32mm scope, very clear and low profile, I didn't have to get a cheek riser for it.

Put a 2 3/4 fixed Redfield Widefield on mine - works great. If I were to buy a new one, it would be a Meostar 1.5-5X20, $400 or so, or if money's no object that day, a Schmidt & Bender 1.1-4X24 Zenith, $1300.

i think I mentioned this before but here goes...we had a customer bring back a Leupold 2 1/2 or 2 3/4 power scope that was on a Marlin 45/70, the crosshairs were gone, completely scrambled. The owner was using heavy handloads with 480 grain hammers.......The 45/70's kick can be viscious when you use heavy loads and the rifle weighs 7 1/2 lbs.....I would opt for the best open/iron sight combo you can cobble together....I use a Williams rear peep and a firesight front sight.

I have a Leupold 1x4 Vari-X II, both on my .45-70 Marlin 1895GS and a .458WM model 70. Both seem to be 'weathering' the storm well. I haven't made any changes to the iron sights on either of them but I did opt for Weaver pivot mounts on both to give me access to the open sights, should the need arise.

I use a Redfield Widefield fixed 2 3/4 power. Stay away fron any scope with a front bell - keep it light as you don't need long range ability. Any of the small variables suggested here would be just fine!

Where can you get a Meostar for that cheap?
