I am a beginner in this category, looking for info on scoping my mint condition 10FP for eventual long range shooting & competing. I am looking to spend $1000+ probably Leupold MilDot preferably...Any suggestions?
Thank U!

I've got a Leupold VX-II 6-18x40mmAO on my Rem 700P right now. Switching it over to a Leupold VX-III 6.5-20x40mmAO when I get some time & the VX-II is going on another rifle...

Any of the Leupold LR/T scopes would be good for you. Depends no how much mag you like. I tend to go lower, right now I have a 4.5-14x Mk4 on my Rem700 rig. I also like the 3.5-10x for sniper shoots (ranges tend to be from 50m to 600m, sometimes 800m) but a 6.5-20x might be nice for f-class stuff (ranges from 300m to 900m).

MK4 LR/T's are pricy but I am looking in that direction since I eventualy plan to go 800+ when I get better.
Thanks

Keep in mind the amount of adjustment you'll be able to sqeeze out of any given scope....
To shoot .308 out past 600 yrds you may have to shim your mount or you could use a -20MOA base to cant your scope enough.

I would much rather go with the Bushnell ELITE 4200 8-32 power * 40mm with the multi-X rectile (Duplex crosshairs).

Its much cheaper ($585.63) and it comes with a scope-hood along with 1/8 M.O.A. adjustments rather than 1/4. At long ranges 1/8 clicks are a much better choice as you can utilize more precise bullet placements.

Another good selling point is the magnification. 8-32 power I believe is the highest magnification on the market and along with Parallex focus from 10 yards to infinity, targets at 500, 700, 800 yards with be cristal-clear and relatively large in your scope image.

I have the Bushnell ELITE 4200 8-32 *40mm on my Reminton 700P - .308 Win
and I love it.

To me, LEUPOLD seems like a rip-off. $1099.94 for a scope with 1/4 MOA clicks and a low magnification of only 4.5 - 14 power. No thanks!

1/8 MOA clicks means twice as many clicks to go through over a 1/4 MOA scope for any given adjustment (2" up is 16 clicks on a 1/8MOA scope vs. 8 clicks on a 1/4MOA scope). Whether that's good or bad is up to you, but if the scope has only, say, 60 clicks from centre, the 1/4 MOA scope has double the range of the 1/8 MOA scope, but the 1/8 MOA scope will be more precise. It's a trade off.
Of course, you could always get yourself a +20 MOA base, which would make the adjustment range a moot point, if you shoot exclusively at long ranges.
Try and look through every scope you're considering under every condition you'd shoot in. Pick the one that performs best to your eyes, regardless of its reputation, or its printed specs. (Just don't buy a Tasco.. unless it's a Titan.. then I might forgive you)
Nobody except maybe your optometrist can tell you what you'll see, so get out there and judge them for yourself, and don't base your desicion on what you see through them in the store.. take them outside if you can.
