Scoping a 338wm

Another vote for the 1.5-5x Leupold. It's all the scope you need for a 300 yard shot and still plenty bright for low light shooting. Not certain that an illuminated reticle is entirely necessary, but it's not a bad idea either.

I have an older Bushnell Trophy 3-9X40 on my Browning A-Bolt in 338 Win mag. I have been using it for years with no problems shooting 225 gr. bullets. I can shoot a 2" group at 200 yards with this set up. When it dies I will replace it with a Leupold .

i put a 4.5-14x40 Boone$Crockett on my good friends 338 this year and he took a ram at 450yards with it , don't limit yourself.

i use the 2.5-10x45 power. very low power for in the bush and 10 is just enough to make very nice shots at 5 or 6 hundred yards, the Boone and Crockett works great to if you take the time to set it up properly.

I would recommend the Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40, as well. The only thing stopping me, is that I've got a buddy who has a Burris FFII 3-9x40 sitting on his .338 Ruger MKII that has been on top of that rifle for HUNDREDS if not thousands of rounds. I've witnessed much of the shooting that has been done with this rifle/scope combo. The only thing keeping me from recommending the Zeiss (which is AWESOME), is that I've also got some Burris FFII 3-9x40 scopes as well as Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 scopes. I am HARD pressed to notice a difference in clarity or brightness between the two during full daylight or twilight, and the Burris is tough as nails, as is the Zeiss. The Burris costs half what the Zeiss does. The only thing that the Zeiss might do a bit better, is warranty service, although that is just according to what others have reported. I've only had to use Burris CS once, and the experience was completely satisfactory and pleasant. The adjustments on the Zeiss are more crisp and clean, too, but the Burris scopes that I have have been every bit as reliable in tracking, holding zero, and RTZ as the Zeiss have. The measured eye relief of most of my Burris FFII 3-9x40 scopes is 3.5-3.8", and the Zeiss measures at a constant 4". My buddy has had no problems with eye relief with his Burris on his .338WM.

The Zeiss is a GREAT scope, and I love mine, but so is the Burris. I'll repeat that the Burris is half the price, or less.

I'd go with a 2-7x33 VXII or 2.5-8x36 VX3. Great scopes with a ton of eye relief, good warranty and reasonable price. I've used them both on .338 magnums with great results and am currently employing the VX3 on my LH Sako custom .338.
