Scoping a Parker Hale?

I have a question, if someone cares to respond...and I thank you sincerely!
My son inherited his grandfathers deer gun. It is what I believe to be a sporterized 303 and in like new condition. There is no mmfg identity on it, but the butt plate has a P overlying an H....so that's why I think it's a Parker Hale. It's a very light and short rifle and so he wants to put a scope on it for his wife to use and it fits her quite nicely too. The front sight is hooded, with the hood canted forward, and looks odd. The rear sight is the typical tip up military style. Ahead of the bolt, the barrel is drilled and tapped with two screws - obviously for a scope mount. To the rear of the bolt, where the rear sight is mounted, there is no obvious mounting point for a scope base.
My question is: What type/style of base does this rifle require and where might I find one? Will it use a standard style ring or do they have to be special too? Finally - is it worth the bother?

The rear sight was replaced with a scope base which also had a fixed peep sight. Standard PH rings were used.
Sometimes these mount sets turn up.
 
There are a couple of options for this rifle. You can use an S&K mount or it's equivalent from B-Square. Both are what are referred to as a "No Gunsmith Mount", meaning that they don't require drilling and tapping. Another option is to go ahead with a Weaver TO-1 mount, seeing as you have two tapped holes in the receiver ring already. The TO-1 mount will require a third hole to be drilled and tapped in the receiver bridge, providing it is still there. As Tiriaq has pointed out, some of the PH bases do turn up once in a while, but they are hard to come across. I have one of them, but this one has been bent in someone's process of taking it off. I'm sure it can be straightened again, but then you would have to locate a set of Parker Hale rings which in itself is no easy task.
 
You have a No4 Parker Hale Sporter. Remove the front hood as it interferes with sight picture in dim lighting conditions and scope's line of sight.

The Custom No4 is factory drilled and tapped for Parker Hale scope bases .....front uses A21 and rear A20. Parker Hale "high rings" must be used for this application (from PH catalog No70). You should also be aware Parker Hale has been defunct for many years. These mounts are very desireable.....generally can be found on eBay.....very pricey!

Your best option is a "no Gunsmith" mount..... S&K is the best out there for the money.....returns to zero every time.....uses readily available Weaver style rings. I've got a spare one of these if you want to PM me.
