scoping a Savage 17hmr

I have Grand Slam High rings with a 6-18x40 Pine ridge (Cabelas) scope on there. Haven't shot it yet but should be good.

I had medium rings but they were about 1/16 of an inch to short for the 40mm lens.

I've been looking at the Burris signature rings with the plastic intserts and think I may switch to those so there is not to much force on the scope tube as my side parrelax adjustment had gotten real tight since I put the scope in the rings.

4-14 x 44 simmons aetec.....not quite as fun as the above mentioned vortex, but does the trick on them small far away critters.

I can recommend the Sightron SII Big Sky side focus variables - there are two types. Great optics, side focus that works well but doesn't go much below 50yds, lots of elevation adjustment. Tracking has been spot on too.

If the budget allows, the SIII LR 6-24X50 w/mildots is one of my favorite LR field scopes.

If you are planning on shoot close, then the front AO SII Big Sky variables are impressive.

A bit overkill but I sure like the resolution, my Savage 93 FV in 22LR has a SII Big Sky 36X42. Works wonderfully and lets me aim to within a few millimeters at 200yds.

Really enjoying this scope but not much use if chasing moving targets.

My Savage s.s. .17 HMR came with a satin silver 3x9x40 Bushy on it.

I came across a really nice, two month old silver Ziess Conquest 3x9x40 at a great price recently.

The clarity and fine reticle of the scope make is a pleasure to shoot, much better than the Bushnell.

Although I wish I'd done what some of the other guys on this thread had done, and gone with a slightly higher power. My old eyes just aren't what the used to be!!!!

Joe from Dlask is finishing up my 10/22 and I'll need a scope for that as well. Here is what I've got kicking around the house right now, just don't know if I should get something different.

Simmons blazer 3-9x40 duplex
Pine Ridge tactical 3-12x40 with rimfire turrets
BSA 6-18x42 mildot
Redfield/Leupold Rev 4-12x40
Nikon Buckmaster 6-18x40 target turrets

I have a barska 6x24x50 on mine and I love it

With a 3x9 expect to struggle to see shots on a target at 100 yards

Nikon Buckmaster 6-20 side focus, 50 yard minimum focus.

Which produces at 100 yards...

I put the buckmaster 6x18 on mine and it really brings them in close have the sweet 17 but its not on with the 20 grain ammo so I put the target turet on top of the buck master and am learning its settings

I put a Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40mm Dead hold BDC on mine. I like the no BS warranty and the glass is bright and crystal clear.

I was thinking about getting one of these for the range. kind of new to shooting, but considering the max distance is 200m what sort of magnification should I be looking at?
