Scoping a Savage 99

I'm wondering what all the Savvy 99 owners out there are using for optics. My deteriorating eyesight requires assistance. My newly acquired 99 in .308 will be used mainly for whitetails.... brushy....shots of less than 120 yards. I've been looking at the Bushnell Trophy 1.5x-6x or a red-dot in the Vortex Strikefire.....opinions and thoughts please...and thanks

mines been wearing the 3-9x32 bushnell scopechief since the day i got it- the reason for the 32 is the bell doesn't hit the barrel- it does with the 40 , although the 40 would be a better choice for dusk-dawn, and i could use higher rings- but i'm into fairly longer range mulies, elk and moosies-i find the dot too darned big at the ranges i use-and i'm on horseback- 308/180- the odd bear too

I've got a Stith mounted 2.5 Savage scope on my 22 Hi Power...
A 4-16x40 on my 250-3000
a tang sight on my 32-40 and my 300sav

for that .308 a 4x32 or 4x40 would likely do fine,but a fixed 6 would be just right I'm thinkin...unless you want a scope with more moving parts inside...

My dad really like the busnell trophy 3-9x40. Clear and a good fast focus. I like the 3x9 4200 but that is a little more cash. I also really like the 1.5x4.5 3200 bushy. Very nice in the thicker stuff and 4.5 is fine out to the distance you mentioned and beyond. Plus its size really fit the 99. Most red dots have too large a dot for me. But the eotech is the cats meow inside 200 yards with its 1 moa dot. But that would look strange on a model 99 . And the price ouch.

Mine has worn a 2-7x33 VX 2 and since the wife comandeered that scope, it now has a 4 x 32 weaver. Both make for nice glass on the close range work.

My 358 wears a VX-II 1-4x-20mm. For the hunting conditions you are talking about that power range (and scope, though the price is a bit higher) would do really well.
