scoping a sharps

anyone put a scope on there sharps (not the modern scope) but the replicas of past? what did you think of it? any ifo would be great thanks
 
Those scopes(Malcolm type)cost from $450 for the Chinese copy to $900 for a MVA or RHO....most full length ones are 6x, some shorter ones are 3x. Most rifles will require 1 dovetail cut into the barrel. Mounts are expensive, and are important, as they have the adjustments, these should be repeatable but are not click type, as they would not be legal for Comp. They do have vernier scale and adjustments for repeat for the diff. distances. Make sure that the mounts will have enough elev. for longer ranges, in theory the shorter scopes will have more latitude. Enjoy the gun and the scope!!

Would you recommend the MVA? Who in saskabush would be qualified to mount it?

You'll have to square it away with MVA, I believe Shiloh cuts a 7/16" dovetail for the front sight, and you'll need a rear dovetail cut. Any decent gunsmith or machinist should be able to cut the dovetail, 3/8" is std., however 7/16" was the trad. cut out in the 1870s by Sharps and i think you need the same, front and back, you'll have to check with MVA or RHO.
MVA = QUALITY
Chinese= CRAP
I should add that I think in either case the mount is included in the scope price, does this mean that you're gonna' knock over more rams then me??
 
Leroy...too bad you're way out in Alta....or we could have our own sillywet shoot here or in the middle where Dave is....i don't know if they have the 500mtr. sillywet range like we have here in P.A....anyhow, I've highjacked this thread enough, I may see you at the show in N. Battleford?? I've been given a table by the Cowboy Action shooters!!
 
Do you have a source to get the scope in Canada?
Some type of export restriction prevents them shipping it from the US.
A search of old posts will turn up more discussion on this type of scope too.
 
With you hitting 100% I doubt it lol. I have ordered new glasses though lol. Gawd I was blind.Who would be a good gunsmith in Saskatchewan?

There should be someone in your neck of the woods, check at the gunshow in N. Battleford....Kerry Higginson in S'toon or Craig Douglas in S'toon, and there's a fellow who messes with Rolling Blocks...don't know his name but he should be at the show.......Ben
I think Doug Rayner out of Lancer sk. is a 'smith too, not 100%sure.....Ben
