Scoping An Air Rifle??

I'm told a scope designed for a regular firearm is not suitable for use on an air rifle - that the air rifle recoil will damage a scope designed for a regular firearm?? Is this so?? Why??

The thought behind this is due to a spring pistons double recoil vs a powderburnders one way recoil. Scopes not designed for spring piston guns will be destroyed as the lenses are only supported for the one way recoil of a PB. That being said, I have had no issues with Bushnell Trophys in the past as well as Leapers (prefer Bushnell though). There are other manufacturers out there who offer airgun rated scopes as well. If you have a PCP airgun you will not have to be concerned with scope selection.

Reverse recoil. Hard on scopes, destroys cheap ones. Hawke brand scopes are good and air rifle rated.

For a spring piston air rifle, you need an airgun rated scope. As stated above, a springer has two-way recoil and this can destroy scopes designed for PB's. There are a few airgun rated scopes such as those made by Hawke, Leapers, and some Bushnells, among a few others. Another consideration is to make sure your scope mounts have a stop pin to prevent the mounts from moving in the dovetail grooves due to recoil.
